Bored at work - common causes

stressed woman

Many people fall into a career or job, so it's not surprising that they can feel bored at work. Boredom can be caused by a number of factors including; poor fit of your role with your personal values and motivation; staying put in a job because you avoid risk, especially in the current economic climate; repetitive tasks and a lack of variety and stimulation; the tasks that you spend most of your time on are not playing to your strengths; not having enough work to do, so time drags and doing work below what you are capable of because of lack of resources or promotion being blocked.

Boredom can be addressed by changing your attitude to it short term, but the reality may be that your work isn't really you, and you need to face up to this and do something about it, or it can have a knock on effect elsewhere on your happiness and well-being.

If you are bored at work, a career change may be the answer. Take the first step and e mail us rachel@liberateyourtalent.com to receive a FREE career change tips report and information about our FREE teleseminar Fears about career change.

Five tips to re-energise you at work
 female

1) Reflect on times at work in the past when you have felt really energised. What were you doing?

2) What's causing the boredom and what can you influence?

3) Review other areas of your life e.g. hobbies and relationships as you may be projecting frustration from these onto work

4) Imagine you could look at your work with fresh eyes. What would you change to improve what you do and how you do it?

5) Write a description for your dream work. How does it compare with your current work?
