It has been quite a turbulent time of late!
What's been happening with you? We'd love to hear your news and what you are up to now.

How has the downturn affected you and your plans?
Historically we have worked with people wanting to change career and recently it has been more people needing to because of a shortage of jobs. Seeing lots of people whose skills have become obsolete is a great reminder to make time for continual professional development.
It took me ages to get my head around the impact of the credit crunch, but over time I have realised there are many positives; greater focus on values, people pulling together, less complacency and more focus on efficiency. It has certainly made me dig deep and be more creative and see opportunities that I would never have seen.

Here's an update of what we have been up to!
In 2008, my Grandma was still going strong at 96 (she still is!), so I thought, blimey, I'd better start thinking about funding my care home!
In addition more and more coaches were entering the market, so it felt like a good idea to take a step back and do for myself what I do for my clients and re-evaluate/re-focus. I also missed doing strategic work and research (my career heritage) so in 2008 I took 6 months out to analyse client needs, work trends etc. I had a lovely time!
This resulted in the decision to focus on career change/reinvention and helping professionals to market themselves. I gave birth to one web site (see www.liberateyourtalent.com) and then identified talent management, specifically employer branding and employee engagement as a new area of Energise business which happened completely by chance, then gave birth to a second web site without forceps!
Reading up on work trends and what employers are looking for has not only filled up my brain in the area of talent management and human capital, it has also been very useful to support career change clients post credit crunch with the large scale redundancies that have been happening and people having to change direction because of a shortage of jobs.
Employers have held the power recently with employees staying put, so it has been quiet on the employee engagement front, but I have been steadily building up my contacts, networking and doing events so hopefully I am in a good position for when employees start jumping ship as the economy picks up.
One of my goals with my coach is to ask my network for introductions, so if you have any contacts in this area, do let me know - warm recommendation always helps.
So what next for Energise? I am planning to create some teleseminar programmes, embrace the world of social marketing, and the legal profession is a key area I am focusing on.
On a personal note, I love living in Charlbury, Oxfordshire having downshifted from living in London in 2006 and have just celebrated my 45th birthday!

New thinking needed with the changing world of work |

Here are some thoughts on what we see as being key trends for the forseeable future:
- More contracting and freelance work
- Networking more important to secure positions
- Skills becoming obsolete faster and the need to keep skills up to date
- Growth in portfolio working
- People seeking more meaning and purpose, with satisfaction of personal values and needs becoming more important through people's work
A lot of people don't realise that the world of work isn't going to go back to what it was - this is quite daunting for people, with the need for them to take more responsibility for marketing themselves.
