Greetings!

Jamaica

Thank you for your interest in the Lord's work in Jamaica. Many of the Jamaican people are poor financially and especially spiritually. The slave background has left an individualistic culture, which lacks the family institution and has little regard for the poor, elderly, destitute, and weak.

Jamaica With a difficult history and continuing poverty and suffering, Jamaica is also defined by a beautiful landscape, wonderful people and innumerable assets. World Relief is currently working with several organizations which provide a relational base to facilitate work within the country.

Vision and Mission for Our Work in Jamaica

Jamaica World Relief is focused on serving the physical and spiritual needs of the deaf, orphaned and indigent. This is being done through schools, health service facilities, deaf ministries, and community outreaches.

Vision

God is glorified by our obedience and love for each other and by transformed lives resulting in a healthy indigenous body of believers and the praise and thanksgiving of those we minister to in His name.

Mission
  • To live and share the gospel and make disciples with emphasis to the deaf community.
  • To aid the destitute and helpless and teach the whole counsel of God following the command and example of Christ.   (Matt 28; Isaiah 61)

  Discipleship With the Deaf

Jamaica Children

Basic Biblical truths of the gospel, like faith, forgiveness, and justification can be especially challenging to communicate as we conduct Bible studies and discipleship programs for the deaf in Jamaican Sign Language (JSL). Please pray the Holy Spirit will continue to lead and bless these endeavors.

  Helping the Helpess

Blossom Garden Children's Home
Jamaica

Provides care and protection for about seventy children, up to the age of about seven, who are wards of the state. World Relief assists in this work by providing material aid such as rice, beans, bedding, personal hygiene products, cleaning supplies and other common use items.

Jamaica Infirmaries - (Manchester, St. James, and Trelawny)
Jamaica has an infirmary for each parish charged with caring for the indigent. The infirmaries typically serve between 70 and 100 residents. The government's goal for the infirmaries is to ensure that physical, mental, recreational, and spiritual needs are met.

World Relief assists in this work by providing rice, beans, bedding, personal hygiene products, cleaning supplies, and other common use items. These items are prepared by the brethren at WR distribution centers.

  Developmental Programs

Jamaica Waldensia Primary School
This public school serves the rural community of Sherwood Content. The school and students are served through school supplies and personal hygiene items.

Caribbean Christian Center for the Deaf (CCCD)
There are three CCCD scJamaicahools in Jamaica that were established to minister to the deaf and those with limited hearing. They are located in Kingston, Knockpatrick, and Montego Bay. World Relief sends aid and work teams to help the schools.

Jamaica Deaf Village

Jamaica As part of CCCD, the concept for the deaf village is to provide a place for the adult Christian deaf to be able to grow in their walk with the Lord. If there is a need, they also help find a place to work and live.

  Rehabilitation Programs

Granville Place of Safety
A government-run institution located in Falmouth that serves as a holding facility for girls who cannot return home to their parents. These girls have committed offenses, have been abandoned, have been abused or have gone beyond the control of their parents. World Relief serves this school by providing school supplies and personal hygiene products.

New Beginnings Boys School
New Beginnings ministers to sJamaicatreet children and children with difficult beginnings. The school is committed to giving boys with a difficult childhood a new beginning. They operate a remedial school and a residential mentoring program. World Relief has provided material aid for the school for several years.

  Work Teams

Building Construction

Historically, teams have worked primarily at CCCD to assist in building or remodeling campus structures at their deaf schools and Jamaica Deaf Village (JDV). As a result of better health care, student enrollment has declined. And as CCCD's need for construction continues to diminish, there are new opportunities for construction work teams at the infirmaries and orphanages being supported by our material aid programs.
  Gratitude
Jamaica World Relief has sent over 2,500 individuals on short-term work teams to  Jamaica. Many of our brethren have pursued sign language training because of their love for the Jamaican deaf served and their desire to communicate on future trips.

On behalf of the brothers and sisters serving in Jamaica, we express our appreciation to the brotherhood for supporting the ministry in Jamaica with their prayers, funds, and work team participation.

Thank you and God bless you.
