MAGNET Innovation Center Update - June 2010
|
Greetings!
June's heat wave may have kept most of us inside where it was cool, but the region's entrepreneurs were certainly out and about. I had more inquires in June than any month so far this year, which I take as good news for our recovery. While only one new tenant, The Amicus Group, joined the incubator officially during the month, there are several other interesting conversations underway.
I also this month give you a little teaser of some upcoming Marketing and PR efforts we will be taking on behalf of the incubator. We tapped into the resources of a student-staffed / professionally-managed organization out of Kent State University, The Tannery. The students have been a lot of fun to work with and have generated quality deliverables. So stay tuned for a new look very shortly.
That's it for now - get out there and enjoy the nice weather.

New Tenant: The Amicus Group Founded by Peter
Zackaroff and David Crawford in June of 2008, TAG is an Ohio corporation
located in
Akron, Ohio. The Amicus Group joined the incubator in June, establishing a presence in Cuyahoga County.
Mr. Crawford is a CPA and recognized expert in the design of complex financial systems. He was sole owner of Crawford Consulting Inc. (CCI). CCI provided state of the art solutions for a number of major companies. In 1994, CCI acquired the license rights to an early generation court case management solution and reengineered the legacy product into a comprehensive case management system (CMS) application. Under his leadership, the company grew into a nationally recognized leader in integrated justice solutions and implementation services with over 200 clients throughout the United States.
Mr. Zackaroff has over 25 years of professional business and legal experience. He joined CCI in 1996 as Vice President and General Counsel. Over the last 13 years, he has established himself as a subject matter expert in comparative judicial procedures and judicial administration as well as a leading CMS executive managing complex implementation projects throughout the United States.
TAG is once again trying to change the landscape of Court Management Systems. The new TAG Toolkit provides a foundation for delivering essential CMS functions in a flexible, easily composed, and highly reusable fashion. Facilitated through adoption of service oriented architecture (SOA), the Toolkit enables the implementation of a services platform consisting of functional process elements that can be combined and supplemented to support the ever changing requirements of the justice community. SOA focuses on value which is achieved by breaking down the business and information systems into components, providing re-usability and modularity. The result is a flexible, scalable, and durable application that will be controlled by the client. |

Success Stories
Cleveland Whiskey recently received approval from the Alcohol
and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) to operate as an Experimental Distilled
Spirits Plant. This is an important step forward in the company's testing of their proprietary process to dramatically accelerate the distillation of whiskey to respond to a looming shortage in the global $2B whiskey market.
We've also had an acquisition! I can't release the official details just quite yet, but I should have something to release next month. Stay tuned for this one...

New look for the incubator
I've been working with The Tannery the last few months, discussing a "new look and feel" for MAGNET's Incubator. We've made a lot of changes to the incubator already, with more in the works, so it just made sense to put a fresh new coat of paint over the whole program.
I'm not quite ready to reveal details yet, but you should be seeing a brand new look very shortly.
