Greetings!

Welcome to the Holiday edition of News from Spraying Devices.

Thank you for your comments and encouragement on our newsletter. One of last month's topics "Hand Gun Calibration", generated quite a bit of response. It appears that some of you were surprised to discover that I was referring to spray guns and not other hand operated guns. Well, keeping you entertained is another goal of this newsletter!

If you have topics or ideas you would like to see integrated into this newsletter please email me at sam@sprayingdevices.com with your suggestions.

Seasons Greetings

Please note;

 To enable our employees to spend time with their families, SDI will close Thursday December 24 at 12 noon
PST and reopen Monday January 4 at 7am.

Happy Holidays from all of us at SDI!

Gauge Wheels Now Standard on Optimum Turf Booms

Gauge wheels are a boom accessory that helps to protect the nozzle bodies from breakage when the tip of the boom makes an inadvertent contact with the ground. Attached at each end of the boom, the gauge wheels prevent the end of the boom from digging into the turf. This can occur when spraying in an area with moderate surface undulations.
Gauge Wheel
Typically, the height of the boom is dependent on the nozzle spacing and the style of tip. Our booms come with 10 or 20 inch nozzle spacing. The relative closeness of the boom wing to the ground (as compared to many agricultural operations) make these wheels a lifesaver for your nozzle bodies.

SDI is pleased to announce we are building our OTB booms with integrated gauge wheels as standard equipment. This is effective with shipments begining in December 2009.
Sprayer Clean-up and Winterization

The end of your spray season is the time to clean, inspect and prepare your sprayer for next years use. It is surprising to see how many sprayers have been parked at the end of the spray season still needing repairs or have leftover spray material remaining in the tank.

After confirming that the tank is empty of spray material, remove the line strainer and clear any debris that has collected on the screen. TM100Fill the tank with at least 25 gallons of clean water and circulate the water through the tank, boom and hose reel. If needed, use one of the commercially available tank cleaning products to remove heavy spray residues. Follow the label on these products to gain the most benefit.

After running, dispose of the rinsate in accordance with local laws. Remove the line strainer bowl and place it with the removed spray tips and tip strainers (the tank fill basket makes a good storage location). Make sure that the pump, hoses and lines are completely empty. Use a shot of compressed air to clear the hose on the hose reel.

The color on an SDI tank is impregnated in the gel coat. A little bit of fine rubbing compound combined with a little bit of elbow grease and your tank can be buffed out to look just like new. Add a coat of wax to keep that new sprayer shine!
