Just because the days are getting shorter and the temperatures are starting to drop, it doesn't mean that you should hang up the hat on your trips away from home! The Finger Lakes Region has plenty of activities to enjoy during the upcoming Winter Weather.
There are many trails that traverse the Finger Lakes Region. In our back yard we have the Tanglewood Nature Center. During the winter the center offers snowshoeing. Just down the road is the Catharine Valley Trail, which is perfect for cross-country skiing. No snow? No problem! Each of the trails are open year round, so if there is no snow you can still enjoy the trail.
Another natural wonder that is breathtaking during the winter months are the local waterfalls. When they freeze over, the ice blankets build a piece of art that is a must-see!
Of course, there are the ever-popular Wine Trails in the Finger Lakes. There are over 50 wineries on Seneca Lake, giving you an opportunity to find something to please everyone's palate. Need to stop along the trail? There are local restaurants scattered along the Wine Trails, so be sure to taste some local cuisine too. Despite the way it sounds, you cannot walk these trails to get to the wineries. So it is best if you enjoy these trails with guided transportation or a designated driver!
Looking for some spectator fun? Why not check out the local ECHL Hockey Team, The Elmira Jackals. All the ice and none of the pain for you!
As always, there are plenty of places where you can grab a cup of hot chocolate or go shopping when its just a little to cold to be outside. A short drive away you can visit the
Corning Museum of Glass where you can blow your own glass ornament, visit the Innovation Center and the Do It! Stations let you bend light, bend glass and more. And you will be able to save a few dollars for that hot chocolate or present because 19 and under are FREE!
