National Travel and Tourism Week
The first full week of May is annually recognized as National Travel and Tourism Week, a tradition first celebrated in 1984. Localized events are presented in cities, states and travel businesses nationwide to champion the power of travel. It was established as National Tourism Week when the U.S. Congress passed a joint resolution in 1983 designating the week to be celebrated in May.

Corning Museum of Glass Turns 60!!!
Founded in 1951 as a not-for-profit institution, The Corning Museum of Glass has grown to become the world's best glass museum, with a collection of more than 45,000 objects, a world-class Studio, and the renowned Rakow Research Library.
Join us as at our 60th Birthday Celebration on Thursday May 19th from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.! Free admission for everyone, extended Museum hours, the opening of a major summer exhibition, and special activities throughout the evening.

Finger Lakes Cheese Trail

Is it Open?
 Mark Twain Country and Finger Lakes Wine Country are open all year long, but many visitors wait until the larger seasonal attractions open to come. So here is a quick peek at some that are opening! Harris Hill - In addition to public glider rides offered by Harris Hill Soaring, There is the excellent, family-sized Harris Hill Amusement Park with motorized kiddie rides, arcade games, batting cages, a driving range - and food!. They also sport one of the region's best gas-powered micro-race tracks for kids! You will find a large public park and numerous picnic areas adjacent to the amusement park. Add in the horseshoe pits, the three-hole golf course, and the large attended (and heated!) swimming pool, and you have a full day's adventure on this one mountaintop! Watkins Glen State Park - Opening Mid-May. Within two miles, the glen's stream descends 400 feet past 200-foot cliffs, generating 19 waterfalls along its course. The gorge path winds over and under waterfalls and through the spray of Cavern Cascade. Rim trails overlook the gorge. Elmira Drive In - The Elmira Drive-In is a twin drive-in that resides on 19 acres of land on Route 352. The main screen is 50' by 100', which is one of the largest screens in New York state. And of course, there are always these year-round favorites you can visit!National Soaring Museum - An aviation museum working to preserve the history of motorless flight. Stop in and see a multitude of gliders on display, try out computerized flight simulators, and participate in fun educational programs. Tanglewood Nature Center - Nine miles of trails allow you to experience the natural beauty of the Chemung Valley first-hand. The museum features 43 species of live animals and interactive exhibits. Rockwell Museum of Western Art - Kids and Teens (19 and under) are Free. Explore the West Activity Booklet - Young buckaroos will explore the Museum through fun activities! Participate in a hide-and-go-seek game, learn about real cowboys, and draw a horse! Art Hunt - Young visitors match an artist's drawing to images found in the paintings and objects throughout the galleries! ArtPack Activity - The ArtPack program offers backpacks filled with creative activities, puzzles, games and more! |

Phish at the Glen
 For the first time in almost 40 years, legendary Watkins Glen International will host a major music festival that will feature a national recording artist. The rock band PHISH will host their 9th multiday festival, Super Ball IX, at The Soul of American Road Racing this July 1st thru 3rd. Super Ball IX will be the first time that Phish has ever performed at any motorsports facility promising a unique experience for the band's dedicated fans. The 3-day event weekend will feature a series of performances by the New England-based band along with numerous activities, attractions and art installations. Tickets start at $200 and include admission for the entire weekend as well as convenient onsite camping. Additional camping and travel packages will also be available.
