Dear Partners, Friends and Colleagues,
Clearly, 2010 is already proving to be
a year of critical challenges. Between January and now, we have had
the following disasters around the world (
ReliefWeb):
Earthquakes, floods and mudslides in Haiti; Earthquakes in Tajikistan, the Solomon Islands, and Chile;
Floods in Egypt, the Palestinian territory, the Solomon Islands, Zambia,
Zimbabwe, Serbia, Bolivia, Montenegro, Mozambique, Angola, Kazakhstan, East Africa
and the DR Congo; Landslides and Floods in Mexico and Pakistan; Floods
and Avalanches in Afghanistan; Cyclone Hubert in Madagascar; Cyclone
Tomas in Fiji; and, Cyclone Ului in the Solomon Islands.
This newsletter brings you the latest
news and information about our Center's response to the disasters
in Haiti.
On April 9th
2010, CRSCAD will be hosting an International Workshop on
After the cameras have gone: Rebuilding Sustainable Communities in Haiti after the January 12 Earthquake.
It will be held on the 11th floor of the Healey Library at
the
University of Massachusetts Boston from 8:30am to 5:00pm.
A number of distinguished researchers and practitioners from Haiti and
the United States of America will examine the challenges of post-earthquake
rebuilding in Haiti and the most appropriate paradigm for the long-term
reconstruction efforts.
I look forward to welcoming you to the
Workshop.
I thank you.
