Take Advantage of this Opportunity to Continue Your Education
Take advantage of the Judges & Exhibitors School, December 6-8, in Scottsdale, Ariz. Students of the Judges & Exhibitors School are future judges, horse show exhibitors, or just plain horse enthusiasts.
"We can all look and see a horse that we like, but until you really stand in the shoes of a judge, it's very difficult to really grasp the important elements of showing a horse to its best advantage and then evaluate why one horse won and one horse didn't. Once you stand in center ring and you start evaluating horses and you realize some of the things you have to deal with, besides just having a good eye for a horse, that's when you realize how important it is to become as educated as you can at the Judges & Exhibitors School."
- Lisa B. Blackstone
Take advantage at this opportunity to further your education. Sign up before October 29 and pay $375 or pay $400 after October 29. It will make you a better horsemen. Click here for more information or call (303) 696-4539 or email the Judges & Stewards Office with questions.

Without the support of members, volunteers, exhibitors, trainers, grooms, vendors, staff, wonderful horses, family, and friends, Youth Nationals could not have lasted two decades. Thank you again and here's to another 20 years!

Important Qualification Reminder
Remember, when qualifying for an Amateur (AT) or Amateur Owner (AO) class, you cannot use points and/or a first or second place obtained by a Professional. To compete in an AT class, an Amateur must have obtained the qualifications, and in an AO class, the Amateur Owner must have obtained the qualifications. You may use AT and AO qualifications for an Open class.
Qualifications for Nationals are determined by:
- Points or Qualifying Scores
- A Top Five from Regional Championship classes or East Coast or Pacific Slope Championship classes
- A Top Six from East or West Canadian Breeders Championship classes
Each class you enter at a Regional or National show must have a distinct qualification. You cannot use one qualification for multiple classes within a section at the same show, i.e., for Dressage First Level AT and Dressage First Level AO at Sport Horse Nationals, you would need two sets of qualifications in order to compete in both of those classes.
|
Speaking of Points
Did you know that the qualification points that you earn within a qualification period (which is defined as the previous calendar year and the current year up to the close of entries) may be used at multiple shows to qualify a horse and/or rider for Regionals and/or Nationals? An example would be to use the same points to qualify for a regional show, Canadian Nationals and U.S. Nationals. In other words, points are not used up. You may not use the same points for more than one class at that particular show. If you had earned 10 qualification points in Western Pleasure, you could not use them for Western Pleasure Open (requires 10 qual points) and Western Pleasure AAOTR (requires 10 qual points) at U.S. Nationals. To compete in both of these classes at U.S. Nationals, a total of 20 qualification points would need to be earned.
Any qualification points you earn are good up until the expiration of the qualification period.

Sponsor the Annual Convention
We still need help with sponsorships! This year AHA has dropped the registration costs down from what they were last year. To have approval to move forward with those prices on next year's budget, we need help hitting our sponsorship mark. Every dollar counts and specialized sponsorships are available. Fill out the form or contact Kate Cooper.
Take a look in the next issue of Modern Arabian Horse for more information on your Convention and the Convention host city or Denver, Colorado!

Resolution Deadline is Fast Approaching
Don't forget the August 15 deadline to submit resolutions for the 2012 AHA Convention. Resolutions may be submitted by any AHA Committee/Commission/Club or by the AHA Board of Directors or the AHA President.
Proponents must now state whether a resolution is "extraordinary" or "standard" when submitting resolutions. An extraordinary resolution is defined as one that affects the health, safety or well being of the horse and/or rider; affects the financial well being of AHA, and/or Member Organizations; or creates a severe hardship or gross unfairness to the Association's recognized events or involves other compelling circumstances clearly specified.
If a resolution is submitted as extraordinary, it must clearly define how it meets the "extraordinary" criteria. It will then be reviewed by the Agenda & Resolutions Committee to determine if it meets the necessary criteria. Upon approval, the effective date will be December 31 of the year adopted or upon approval by USEF/EC, if applicable.
A resolution deemed as "Standard" will upon passage, have the effective date of December 31 the year after adoption, i.e. adopted November 2012, effective December 31, 2013
.
A 2012 Resolution form is available online. Also see the "How to Submit Resolutions" document for help in creating a resolution. Look for these items here.
