"Here comes Steven's Newsletter, here comes Steven's Newsletter, right down newsletter lane." Ah, the refrains of the season are upon us, with only minor variations such as this one. No sooner than the turkey has been put under our respective belts and the family has bid farewell, we're plunged into the next seasonal celebration. But wait-didn't we already see Christmas lights up before Thanksgiving? Seems like every year, we see more and more evidence that the cultural garments of the winter solstice are upon us even before they are-well-upon us.
    It's also during this time of the year many of us even more strongly feel the collective vibrations of hurriedness and stress. I note that lately whenever I'm in a crowded store I feel particularly vulnerable to  these "vibes" that are both my own instinctual conditioning and a resonance with the larger humanity. I start to feel my shoulders and jaws tighten, and when I become aware of this, remind myself to breathe and relax.
    I've also found a couple of other things that are helpful in these and other kinds of situations. First, I stand tall and put a slight "Dolphin smile" on my face. It's amazing how making a slight change in our physiology can bring on a change in feelings and attitude. Interestingly enough, when I do it seems like other people respond in kind. Occasionally brief and pleasant interactions occur, which leads to an even greater all around sense of peace and harmony.  
    Another thing I try to do is remember that the winter solstice is a time to slow down and pace myself. Most of all, it's a season to remember the Light even in the darkness, and whenever possible, to Be that Light!
