Did You Know...
On the Library's homepage, hinsdalelibrary.info, you may click on the My Account tab at the top of the page and enter your name, barcode and PIN.
You will then be able to:
o  See what you have on your card such as checked out items, fines and holds.
o  Cancel holds on your card that you no longer want or need.
o  Keep a reading history of the items you check out of the Library. In order to do this, click the Reading History tab on the right side of the page. Then click on the Start History tab on the left side of the page. Your reading history will then be activated.
o  When placing a hold on an item never use the browser back button. Instead, use the one that has the arrow pointing to it. Using the browser button can result in several holds of the same title on your card.
o  An item on hold will wait at the Circulation Desk for seven days.

If you have given us your email address you may receive these notices:
o  Courtesy Notice - This notice is sent 3 days before the item is due as a reminder. This is only a courtesy notice, so please be aware that if for some reason you do not receive it you are still  responsible for the return of the item(s) on time.
o  Overdue Notice - This is sent when your items are 2 weeks overdue.
o  Second Overdue Notice - This notice is sent when your items are 4 weeks overdue.
o  Hold Pick Up Notice - If you have placed a hold on an item and it has been received by the Library you will get this notice to come and pick it up. You have 7 days to pick it up before it is sent back to the owning library.
o  Hold Cancellation Notice - Your item was at the Library for 7 days and has been sent back to the owning library. If you still want the item you may do one of two things:
-Place the hold on your card through the website OR
-Call Reference and they will place the hold on your card.

Customer Satisfaction Survey
Complete our survey and enter for a chance to win a gift card!
The Library has developed a customer satisfaction survey to assess the needs of the community. Please help us better serve you by completing the survey. It will be available September 6-October 4. It is an electronic survey and will be e-mailed to patrons who currently receive the enewsletter. Paper copies will also be available at the public service desks. The survey should take about ten minutes to complete. Gift card winners will be selected at random.
Great Books Discussion

HPL is starting a Great Books discussion group!

Great Books discussions explore, interpret and evaluate a challenging work through the method of Shared Inquiry. Shared Inquiry is a discussion process through which a group searches for answers to questions raised by a work that they all have read. A discussion leader directs and guides the group by asking interpretive questions that reflect genuine doubt about the text. The role of the group leader is to pose these interpretive questions; participants are asked to support their ideas and consider proposed interpretations. Those interested in participating in a Great Books discussion should come ready to think deeply about the text, to share in a challenging discussion and to have lots of fun!
Our first discussion will serve as a brief introduction to the Shared Inquiry method of discussion; we will read and discuss the Declaration of Independence using interpretive questions to familiarize ourselves with the format. If you wish to attend, you may choose to review the Declaration of Independence ahead of time; copies will be provided. Call the Reference Desk for more information at 630.986.1976 or email reference@hinsdalelibrary.info.
