Issue 17  ~  August 4, 2009

Greetings!

Happy Tuesday again! I hope this finds you with a great start to your week and ready to Rule your World!

This week we'll look at a few of the more common "Laws" that relate to building realtionships, especially as they relate to business and sales. I'm also going to throw in my 2-cents on how I approach these Laws and adapt them to my using. I hope you enjoy this perspective!

The Golden Rule of Attraction
With a Little Reciprocity Sprinkled In

attraction  [uh-trak-shuhn] -noun  1. the power or act of alluring, drawing to, inviting, or engaging; 2. an invisible power in a body by which it draws anything to itself

The past few years there has been a lot of buzz about "attraction." The principles have been around for ages, but lately they have gained momentum and popularity. There is the Law of Attraction, the Law of Reciprocity and the Golden Rule. Each of these concepts is foundationally appealing and can at their core be good ideals to live by. Personally, I have my own twist on these laws and rules that puts each in a different perspective.

Law of Attraction - This law basically says that what you think about, focus on and meditate on will come to you. Much has been written on this subject and there has even been a movie (The Secret) made about it. Looking a little deeper, some say that it is who you are at your core that attracts things and people to you. Therefore, if you don't like the things you are attracting, this definition suggests that you need to change who you are.

My take on this Law is that you not only need to focus on the things you want and be a good person, but you also need to take action. Keeping the things you want at the forefront of your mind keeps you alert to the opportunities to attract these things. Writing the things down further cements your focus on the desired attraction. But it isn't enough to just write it down...

Helping YOU!
Quick Hits to Help You Out

Generate leads through speaking

One way you can generate leads is to speak at local events and meetings. Groups, organizations and clubs are always looking for guest speakers to speak at their meetings, usually at lunchtime.

Here is what you do: Pick a topic you are an expert in and put together a 15-20 minute presentation on it. Be sure it is general enough that it can potentially be of value to your whole audience, Next, make it simple enough to be understood by everyone. This can be done by selecting four or five key points and speak for 3-4 minutes on each point.

The only time you'll want to say where you are from is right up front when you introduce (or re-introduce) yourself. Once you begin to speak on your topic, stick to your topic and do not go into self-promotion mode. Nobody cares at this point what you do. Their interest and their reason for having you is to learn more about your topic -- not to hear a commercial about your products or service.

So how do you get the leads? When you are done with your presentation, tell people that if they have questions or would like to have more information on your topic to write "More Info" on the back of their card and that you can follow up with them at a later time.

Speaking puts you in a position of authority. Use this to build your position in your industry and community and to keep your sales funnel full!
