Neighborhood Stabilization Program Update
In October of 2009, the City of Holland was awarded at $404,000 grant from the Michigan State Development Authority for revitalizing homes in the Midtown Target Area. Through this grant, the City of Holland's Neighborhood Stabilization Program has purchased 3 foreclosed residences and has partnered with local nonprofits, Habitat for Humanity, HomeCor and Jubilee Ministries, to rehab the homes. The properties, 160 W. 19th Street, 64 W. 17th Street and 117 W. 17th Street, are being developed into high quality, energy efficient single family, owner occupied homes. A fourth home, 401 Central Ave., now owned by Cornerstone Ministries will be demolished under the grant. One component of NSP includes employing local members of the community. HomeCor and Jubilee Ministries are working with New Day Construction to provide the rehabilitation of the homes. New Day construction, a ministry of 70x7 Life Recovery, offers professional construction services to the community while providing training and mentorship to their formally incarcerated employees. Upon completion, the homes will be available for purchase by persons or families able to obtain a mortgage and meet the income limits (see chart below). Special financing is available; including down-payment assistance and an 80/20 mortgage where 20% of the mortgage is forgiven after 10 years. For more information on the Neighborhood Stabilization Program, contact Sue Harder at 616-355-3139 or s.harder@cityofholland.com
