Welcome to the spring...and the gradual start of exams season! This month we have a number of exciting activities for both teachers and learners. For teachers we are continuing our series of popular webinars, running a workshop in Istanbul for drama in ELT expert Ken Wilson and providing a number of speakers for the Bosphorus University Students' Conference. For learners, we are bringing well-known children's storyteller Alec Williams to the Cocuk Bayrami celebrations in Konya. In the digital world, we are running an exciting Learn English Facebook app competition based on the London 2012 Olympic Games and the launch of a new website specially for young learners, Learn English Teens.

IATEFL International Conference 2012: Glasgow Online

The conference may have finished, but that only means there's more content on the site now than before! Watch recordings of sessions as well as interviews with over 50 speakers and writers who were in Glasgow - and you can even continue to participate in the discussion on the site.

In this lesson students practise forming, asking and answering 'wh' questions in the past tense. They play two games and do a mingling activity. It's aimed at lower intermediate level and comes complete with downloadable worksheets.

Early EFL learning in context - Evidence from a country case study

Children are starting to learn English at increasingly younger ages. This paper researches the phenomenon from a contextualised perspective, following the progress of 173 young learners in Croatia over a three year period.

2012 is Great
2012 is a great year for Britain: London will be hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games (and it's also the Queen's Diamond Jubilee!). To celebrate, a series of posters have been released around the world - you can download copies here and use the free lesson plans and worksheets that come with them!
How different is EAP from other forms of ELT?
In this video, Olwyn Alexander and Sue Argent show how EAP is different from ELT by comparing how the two approaches would deal with the same topic using different texts and tasks, thus contrasting the ways in which the two approaches specify needs, formulate aims and judge the effectiveness of a lesson.
Using songs in the classroom

This short video will give you lots of ideas of how to use songs in your lessons. You can watch the great way in which Seema uses songs with her primary classes and then take a look at more suggestions left by other TeachingEnglish users - and maybe leave your own too!
