Professor Horst Dippel to deliver lecture in Oxford on 11th Nov


Bill of RightsOn 11th November, our next lecture in the Social and Political Foundations of Constitutions series will analyse the development of modern constitutionalism since the Virginia Declaration of Rights of 1776.


Professor Horst Dippel will offer a

revisionist approach to the established preeminence of the American and French constitutional traditions and argue for a more global perspective.

Regulation of Financial Markets workshop
FLJS assesses the changing face of financial regulation on 12th Nov


Financial regulation imageThe inaugural workshop in our new programme on Regulation, Law, and Government will be held on 12 November, in the wake of Bank of England Governor Mervyn King's call for radical reforms to the financial sevices industry.

The workshop will bring together businesspeople, lawyers, and policymakers, including the former Head of the NAO, to evaluate the regulation of financial markets and identify guidelines for future reform.

Debate: The Role of Courts in a Democracy
Join the debate chaired by Joshua Rozenberg on 11th Feb 2011

In this public debate, recorded before a live audience at Magdalen College, Oxford and chaired by Joshua Rozenberg, a panel of leading judges and academics will contest the proper role of courts in a democracy, and assess the position of the Supreme Court in the UK. 


The panel will feature the most recent addition to the Supreme Court,
Sir John Dyson, as well as several independent experts.
