Adding Romance To Your Home

"As Valentines Day approaches, our thoughts often turn to romance.
When I think of romance, I think of beautifully lit rooms, fresh flowers, soft cozy fabrics and the warm feeling that consumes you when you are in love.
Many of us lead hectic lives and romance may not be our top priority after a long stressful day. Here are some easy tips to give your home a romantic feeling all year long." 1. Candles, candles and more candles.
Some of my favorite accessories are battery operated candles.
Many varieties now operate with a built in timer. What's not to love? They turn on and off automatically, there is no flame, and some even come with fragrance . I get such a warm peaceful feeling when I come home at night to the glow of candle light.
2. Fresh Flowers
Fresh flowers add a beautiful elegance to any room, be it long stem roses in a beautiful crystal vase or a stray hibiscus that has fallen from a bush. (float it in a glass bowl filled with water)
3. Soft fabrics
If you don't own a cozy throw (blanket) do yourself a favor and go get one. On these chilly Florida nights it is wonderful to wrap yourself up in one of these with a good glass of wine, and a great book.

Romancing At Home
"Our eco-friendly advice for Valentines Day is to reduce your carbon footprint and have a romantic night IN."
Instead of flowers, start the holiday by planting a Florida native tree. Our pick for February is the The Winter Cassia, a winter bloomer that puts on a wonderful floral display around the holiday season through as late as May.
Now for dinner, you've always heard organic food tastes better, but you've never tried it. This Valentines Day, why not treat yourself to an all organic meal and see for yourselves?
Steaks on the grill, try beef that comes from cattle raised on a vegetarian diet without antibiotics or hormones. Organic potatoes and broccoli easily round out the meal and will taste great with no extra effort on your part.
For dessert, have some fun, buy some organic and regular strawberries and try a blind taste test. Dipped in melted fair-trade chocolate...this may be your best valentines day ever.
Next, the entertainment portion of the evening. Light some soy candles and watch a Romantic movie. Some favorites:
When Harry Met Sally - Remember the beginning when the older couples are being interviewed about how they met and fell in love? "A good man is like a melon. You just know."
The Notebook - Guys may kick a bit and call this a Chick Flick, but it really is about what vows and love were meant to be.
Love Story - When Ali McGraw looks at Ryan O'Niel and says, "love means you never have to say you are sorry." Is that not the best line? Get the tissues out.
Chocolat - Nominated for five Academy Awards, including best picture, Chocolat is the quintessential date movie and a wonderful prelude to an evening of romance.

Romantic Dining Starts Here............
Boiled Lobster Tail with Champagne Beurre Blanc

2 7oz Florida Lobster Tails (cleaned & split) 1tsp sea salt 1tsp cracked black pepper 1tsp paprika 2T drawn butter
-combine the seasonings with the butter and brush on to the lobster tails bake at 325 for 8-10-min then set oven to broil. Broil for 2min until tails are golden brown
Champagne Beurre Blanc
2C Champagne 1/3cup finely chopped shallots 2T Champagne vinegar 1/4tsp whole peppercorn 2 sticks unsalted butter, cut into cubes 1tsp finely chopped chive
-combine champagne,shallots,vinegar, and peppercorns in a medium saucepan. Boil until it's reduced by ¼. Turn to sauce to medium-low heat. Slowly whisk in cubed butter 1 at a time, DO NOT BOIL (the sauce will break). Season the sauce with salt & pepper to taste and finish with chives.
