SAVE WITH SOLAR!........ Capture the Power of the Sun!

Kelly Denmark

"How many different applications can you think of for solar?  Some of the more common uses would be Solar Pool Heating or Solar Electric.  There are many more, in a wide variety of prices, all with a return on investment."

Solar Pool Heating has been used extensively for over 40 years.  This is a simple way to use the Sun's energy to heat the pool water.  The solar panels are made of a black copolymer specifically designed to attract heat and are made with individual tubes that the pool water runs through.  Think of a garden hose.  Solar Pool Heating is an extremely efficient way to heat pool water, has a long life span and requires no special maintenance.

Solar Electric or the more technical name of Photovoltaic or PV for short are comprised of a crystalline silicone module that converts the sun light to energy.  PV modules will produce DC power so there must be a way to convert the energy to AC power to be beneficial to the home owner or business.  This is accomplished with an inverter.

There are many more uses for solar, for instance, Solar Pool Pumping, Solar Domestic Water Heating, Solar Attic Fans, Solar Tubular Lighting, Portable Solar Generators and one of our latest products the Hybrid Solar Air Conditioner.

Although there is an initial investment with solar, there is a return on investment.  Depending on the product, the usage and your lifestyle, will all affect the return or simple payback period.  This simple payback period can be as long as 15 years, which sometimes people think of as a negative.  However when you purchase an electric hot water heater as a for instance, do you ask how long that hot water heater will take to "pay for itself".  Or when you buy a new car do you ask what the pay back period is?  The fact that solar has any payback is a huge positive.

There have been many studies regarding how the of value solar will add to your largest investment, your home.  The rule of thumb is that a solar electric system will add $20 to your home resale value for every $1 of electricity saved annually by solar energy (source: National Appraisal Institute).   Another recent study by ICF Consulting concluded the same that saving $1,000 per year on energy costs adds $20,000 to a home's value.  Because a homeowner's energy savings increase as electricity prices go up, the value of a home solar power system also appreciates over time.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy, a home with solar panels will sell twice as fast as a home without - even in depressed marketsIf you find solar intriguing and want to find more, there is a wealth of information on our web site, www.fafcosolar.com  or Call Kelly at 239.574.1500.

Go Green

Be Green at the Beach Too!

Heading to the beach to celebrate Independence Day?
Here are some tips to make this holiday a little gentler on our environment:

1. Be extra careful with your plastic!  Properly dispose of Popsicle wrappers, shopping bags and cellophane straw wrappers.  These items blow away easily and when they end up in the Gulf can be mistaken for jellyfish - a primary food for our local sea-turtles.  Better yet, avoid these items all together.

2. Bring along a flashlight to help you locate items that can be left behind when leaving in the dark.

3. Say no to Styrofoam!  Styrofoam breaks apart easily and the pieces are often mistaken for food by the shorebirds in our area.

4. Bring along a recycling bin or bag  to keep those cans and bottles separate.

5. Rise and shine and  get to the beach for some coastal cleanup.  Fireworks and sparklers are a part of the tradition of the holiday -  why not start a new tradition and get out and clean up  - you'll be glad you did.

Happy 100th Birthday to The Sanibel School

Sanibel School Celebrates 100 Yrs
100 Bday

It takes a "Village".....and that's where it happened at the Mucky Duck deep in the heart of downtown in the "Village" of Captiva Island on the beach on Sunday June 6.  Sanibel and Captiva families, friends and neighbors came together for the Sanibel School's 100th Birthday Party.  Fun, games, free rides and just wonderful community! All proceeds to benefit the Sanibel School Fund, in support of educational opportunities for our students that are otherwise not available. Many thanks to all who came out to join in the merriment for a wonderful cause. Many Thanks to the Mucky Duck, supporters and  volunteers that made it happen!

Recipe of the Month

START YOUR GRILLS!!!

Timbers

Chargrilled Mahi-Mahi "Island Style" with Grilled Stone Fruit
Courtesy of the TIMBERS RESTAURANT & FISH MARKET

4 Mahi-Mahi filets 8 oz. each
2 oz. Jamaican Jerk Spice
4 oz. Garlic Butter
4 oz. Mango Marinade
2 Stone Fruits (peaches, nectarines, plums) cut in half, pitted and sliced

Prepare charcoal grill or preheat gas grill to desired medium temperature.
In a microwave or on the stove (or on the grill) melt the garlic butter..Brush melted garlic butter on top side of fish and place top side down on the grill.  Brush garlic butter on unbuttered side of fish & cook 3-5 minutes (depending on heat of grill).  Take 4 slices of stone fruit, brush with garlic butter and place on grill for 30 seconds.  Brush exposed side with garlic butter, flip and cook 30 seconds. Remove from heat.  Grill remaining pieces of fruit carefully, remove from heat and chop into small pieces.  Flip fish carefully, sprinkle Jerk spice on top of fish and cook 3-5 minutes until done.  Add grilled pieces of fruit to room temperature mango marinade and spoon over fish.  Top with grilled slice of fruit.  Grilled fruit also makes a great dessert on its own, served with vanilla ice cream!)

You can pick up fresh fish at the TIMBERS FISH MARKET or
Don't feel like cooking???.....CLICK HERE  to go to the TIMBERS website to view the menu....and let the TIMBERS do the grilling for you!
