Thoughts In Print - by Pastor Sue...

Let me begin by sharing some quotes I recently came across:

  • "I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples."  - Mother Teresa
  • "Some changes look negative on the surface but you will soon realize that space is being created in your life for something new to emerge."  - Eckhart Tolle
  • "How many Lutherans does it take to change a light bulb? None. Lutherans don't believe in change." - Unknown

  Change is inevitable and it can often be difficult. Especially when change takes place in areas of our lives that we thought were under control or safe. The reality of our human nature is that we prefer change when it takes place in everyone and everything else and in people or things that more directly impact us. And change in the church can be especially hard when there are changes in people and programs that are near and dear to our hearts. Lord of Life has been undergoing changes in the last several years; changes in staff as well as in programs, people have moved away while others have joined... And we've just spent our 25th anniversary year in conversation and prayer about what new changes may await.

  This process is fraught with growing pains because each and every one of us will view these changes differently and with varying degrees of comfort. While we will embrace some there will be others that make us uncomfortable and the measure of who we are as a community is in how we deal with it all. Do we respond like those Lutherans trying to change a light bulb, or with prayer and conversation as transformed people of faith who recognize that God may just be doing something new and wonderful and challenging in and through us as those quotes from Mother Teresa and Eckhard Tolle suggest.

  As we live into our Vision, and the inevitable changes that come with it, I pray we'll do it together with care and patience and conversation and especially prayer, knowing that some of those changes will be easier for some of us than others. In a recent sermon I talked about this very challenge:  "We need to be able to fully accept that when we live in relationship, things will not always go our way, and that there can be more than one idea of "right"... especially when it comes to what's best for the community as a whole, always remembering that the community is not "whole" without all of us."

  I know I have been deeply changed since becoming a pastor and coming on board at Lord of Life. God has rearranged the way I see myself and others and the world around me in ways that have been both exciting and painful. But I am living into it. And I am learning to embrace the idea that who I am as a pastor and a person is a work in progress. God's work in progress. As are all of us here at Lord of Life. So in closing I offer one last quote about change. It's a prayer actually. You might be familiar with it. It is my prayer for all of us today.

Peace - Pastor Sue

  God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;

      courage to change the things I can;

         and wisdom to know the difference.

            Amen.      --Reinhold Niebuhr

Update on Solar Panels!

FDC with solar panels

Solar electric update: At the special congregation meeting Sep 9th the congregation approved by 2/3 to 1/3 the addition of solar panels to our church.  We are now working with the leasing company and solar panel installer on this project.  Roof quotes have all been received, and the best value bidder will be engaged shortly.  We will keep you updated on this project as it progresses.  Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) have been emailed and available in the narthex and also on-line in the 'LifeLines' section of our website at www.lordlife.us

Please send any questions or comments to finance@lordlife.us

Thank You!

  • A Great Big Thank You! to all of the folks who helped with our Sunday School children in the Fellowship Hall during the recent congregational meeting. Fun and song were the order of the day as Kim Mattson with some help from Nicole Sander as well as Peyton and Rowen Christianson led us in singing and moving to some of our Vacation Bible School music and Jill Glossner got us making things fly with a parachute - including an elephant believe it or not!

  • Women's Ministry - You shoulda been there! What a great time was had by all Tuesday evening at Tarantella's when 20 of the women of Lord of Life got together for food and fellowship. All of us were VERY grateful that we had our food before some storms hit and threatened to put us all in the dark. But it was a great turnout and great fun. Thank you for all of you who came for the evening. Betty Mastrillo is working on an email list for ladies of all ages interested in being kept up to date on Women's Ministry events so if you'd like to be added to this list please contact Betty or Pastor Sue.

  • Women's Retreat at Camp Crossroads October 19-21 - If you're interested in participating in this event please call the church office and leave a message for Pastor Sue or see the bulletin board in the Narthex for additional information. There is an on-line sign up and if we register as a group we can make sure we're roomed together for the weekend. Accommodations are 2 persons per room with bathrooms/showers in each room with all meals provided. Cost is $160 per person.

  • Thank You For Your Kindness and Faithful Prayers For Me! - A letter...

Dear Fran, Care Note Ministers, and Lord of Life Lutheran faith community,

   I am so blest and overwhelmed by your sensitive and caring concern for me during this challenging illness. The most painful things for me right now are the transfusions I need every 2 weeks. I wish my body were making more red cells but that is not the case yet! I want you to know that I am with many other people suffering much more than I am and while I am there I send all of your prayers and join them with my own for their healing and God's loving presence.

I am still waiting to hear from the team (stem cell transplant) about further details when I begin the process. Please pray for my patience and endurance and especially for the donor and in thanksgiving for all people who generously donate blood. It is truly a humbling journey for me. God Bless you in all you are doing.    -Vickie Travaline

A Walk in the Park-Palmyra Cove Nature Park
What a beautiful day we had as we walked the trails and stepped out on the beaches of this special Burlington County park.  From spotting wild turkeys in the woods, getting up close and personal as a fawn fed on the greens along the path, to resting by a beaver lodge, we had a wonderful glimpse of God's natural beauty laid out before us and God's spiritual beauty as we shared together in fellowship there.  Join us next month on October 15th for another adventure!
