From the desk of Pastor Dave...
|
Brothers and Sisters...
Are you aware that Lord of Life has a new mission statement? It's quite good! I believe it's short, sweet and to the point about God's gracious purpose for our work of ministry as we move beyond our 25th anniversary. Now repeat after me...
"Lord of Life is a welcoming community of forgiven people proclaiming the perfect love of Jesus Christ!"
Over the next four weekends, Pastor Sue Jones and I will focus on several segments of this statement in our sermons. We will lift up and connect our assigned lessons with the following themes..."forgiven people"..."perfect love"...welcoming community"..."proclaiming". The hymns and songs we sing together will affirm this Christ-centered identity and so will our prayers. In unison we will recite our new mission statement before each service of worship; confirming our belief that God is calling all of us to a new awareness of our individual and communal calling.
It is said that a mission statement is only good if the people who claim it as their own are genuinely committed to the cause it describes. Lord of Life can only be the creative, dynamic and loving community that God is calling us to be if we all commit to the holy habits of worship, prayer, study, service and generosity. As we live into this faith, we get to put a face on the grace of God and the good Lord gets all the glory, honor and praise. Sounds like a Godly way of life to me! Let's go for it this new program year...together!
Your Brother in CHRIST, Pastor David Jones |

We meet from 8AM to 9 AM in our own area in the rear of the diner. We order off the breakfast menu and then share time in fellowship and faithful conversation. Even if you haven't joined us before, please don't hesitate to join us NOW! Our topic for conversation this week is..."How did you see God's hand at work this summer?...if indeed you did!" If you have any questions about the MFB, just call me (609-707-6575) or E-mail me (Rev_Jones @lordlife.us). Looking forward to seeing you whenever you're able to join us!

I would like to thank you for keeping Haiti in your prayers, especially during the hurricane. The clinic in Mariani withstood the storm well. The staff were all accounted for within 2 days. There was a mission team in Jacmel and it was very hard for them to get back to the clinic due to flooding, mud, and road closures. All have returned safely. A great big thank you goes out to all the many talented seamstresses within our congregation. Your response to the new project to make girls dresses has been wonderful. Everyone has been so creative with their designs that I think World Harvst Orphanage will have very happy little girls when these dresses arrive. I will probably ship them by the end of the year so that they arrive by February, as that is when I plan on returning. Many of you have asked what can be made for the little boys. I am looking for an easy pattern to make shorts and pants. Please pass on any suggestions you may have. I am extremely happy to report that the sewing project/school is doing very well. The students continue to come to the clinic every Saturday for class. They are making clothes and many have sold their items. They are still very enthusiastic about learning to sew and being able to earn a living and support their family. Libertin Civil is the young man I hired to oversee this project and he is doing a wonderful job. He sends me monthly reports about the students, their attendance and projects. The students have recently requested plain blue, gray, black, and yellow fabric. They are making oufits so they need 3 yards pieces. If anyone has such fabric and would like to donate it please leave it in the box in the narthex. All fabric should be weather appropriate for Haiti: cotton is best. Sewing machines are still being shipped at a cost of $100 a machine. At last count 8 have been shipped so we are half way there. The potato bag service project helped pay some shipping costs. I do thank you for all your support and prayers to help the Haitian people. It is truely amazing what God can do. The people in Haiti are warm, friendly, loving people who are extremely appreciative for your help and also for a way they can help themselves. Anyone who has any questions or wishing to go to Haiti, please call me @ 609-726-1698. - Penny Miller

Sounds of Joy at Lutheran Care, Sept. 10, 1:30
It's time once again to join with our friends at Lutheran Care in sharing the love of Jesus. More hands and hearts are always needed to bring the residents to the Chapel, help them share in the program, and get them back to the right room! It's a great time of sharing.
Adult Bible Study, Wednesdays, 10-11:30, beginning Sept 12
All are welcome! It's time to start your Wednesday morning off right with our Adult Bible Study. This is an intergenerational study with people in their 20s to their 90s and everywhere in between! We enjoy discussion, sharing experiences, challenging our thinking, and getting a better understanding of God's Word and what it means for us as we live out our Christian faith.
Join us as Pastor David and Pastor Sue lead us into our new program year with a study focusing on the Old Testament. Stay after the study on the 12th, and we'll also enjoy Soup, Song, and Sacrament as we enjoy an extended time of fellowship around a simple meal and communion.
If you've been a part of the study for years, if you've never tried a study, or anything in between, please know we would love to have you join in. All are welcome!
A Walk in the Park-Palmyra Cove Nature Park, Monday, Sept 17th, 1:00
