And the Cycle Begins Again...
How are your preparations going for the end of summer and the return to the more mundane routine of fall, winter, and spring? Have you been avoiding even thinking about it? Here at the church we're making lots of preparations. And many of you have been getting involved as well. We've been getting ready for all of our programming for our children and youth to begin, especially Sunday School and Confirmation; Council and Staff have begun looking at the calendar and our ministry priorities with a new perspective thanks to our Vision; we're ramping up for all the usual bible studies and music programs and even social gatherings; we're even looking at doing some new things and doing some old things in new ways.
Most importantly we're looking for new ways we can engage all of you in faith formation and servant opportunities as never before. All of you are what makes Lord of Life tick. Did you know that? All of you are uniquely gifted to both participate in and help support all that we do here in this place and elsewhere for the sake of the Gospel - the GOOD NEWS! - of Jesus Christ. All of you are the ministers as well as those who are ministered to. All of you are individually members of Lord of Life but collectively are members of the body that is Lord of Life.
St. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 12 that "The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ." We are individually part of a whole called together by some wonderful whim of the Holy Spirit for God's good purpose and our own wellbeing in this time and place. So which part are you? Do you see yourself and what you have to offer, no matter how great or how small you perceive it to be, as necessary for the health and well-being of the whole church? Give it some thought as you prepare to begin this seemingly never ending cycle again. Think about where the unique and gifted person God has created you to be can become part of something even greater in partnership with all those other parts. And maybe take a leap of faith. Cause we really can't live into our Vision without you.
Awe come on... give it a try!
Peace, PJ2

Thank you! - To all the usual suspects who so graciously assisted with the reception after Fred Braithwood's memorial service last Saturday and also to Barb Wagner and Tom Hall for their hard work in preparing the Memorial Garden, chiggers and all! It's in the seemingly little things that we do for each other each and every day that the love and grace of God is most truly visible.
Did you know... that one of our very own from Lord of Life is featured in a new book to help children and youth deal with stress? Jake Hanely and his family have greatly benefited from a yoga program for youngsters and his instructor has now published a book on the subject. Jake even appears on the cover. Further information on how to get a copy of the book can be found at the following web page: http://www.bodylogique.com/newreleases I'd also encourage you to check out the great work his mom Melinda and others are doing for children with autism and their families. Senior High Mission Trip Reflections
|
Simply, put in short, mission trips are life changing. We packed up our bus and headed down to North Carolina, and after about 12 hours, we finally made it. Throughout the week we were all split up into smaller groups, which really gave us the opportunity to really feel like what we were doing made a difference. The first day I was able to help repair a house of a woman that was over 100 years old! Because of the damages, this woman had not been previously able to live in her home for two months. It was a blessing to know that we were doing God's work by helping this woman return to her home. The entire week showed me how blessed I am, not only to have an undamaged home, but also because I was surrounded by so many loving people that are willing to donate their time to help others. Throughout the week we were able to repair molding, paint walls, clear out trash, fix a roof, and many other things. I will never forget this trip because I truly feel like I made a difference in the lives of others. - Devon Moore

Solar update: Roof quotes are being obtained for the front of the church, which has some missing shingles and is showing its age. Since the roof is so old, it will require replacement during the 20-25 year expected life of the panels, so replacing it now makes sense. At least the front two sections of roof will need to be replaced for the solar to be installed. We are also following up on other issues and concerns. Information on the installation will be available a week prior to our congregational meeting Sep 9th at 9:45am, so we can have an informed vote on this proposal.
Please feel free to contact Bill Dreisbach or Bill Reich if you have any questions.

Helping Hands, Mon, Aug 27, 12:30 It's sandwich time! Help us share our gifts with the people served by the Christian Caring Center in Browns Mills. You can help by making a monetary donation-put it in an envelope marked Helping Hands and place in Sue Dreisbach's box in the office; by donating meat or cheese; by joining the effervescent sandwich making group on the 27th; or any combination of the above! All hands are welcome!
Dinner at the Diner-Tue, Aug 28, LB Daniels, Medford, 4:30 We're trying a new venue for our early bird special! Come and join us for good food, fellowship, and devotions! Please sign up on the bulletin board so that we can save you a seat!
Sounds of Joy at Lutheran Care, Sept. 10, 1:30 As Labor Day falls on our usual first Monday of the month outing, we will make our visit on the second Monday! More hands and hearts are always needed to bring the residents to the Chapel, help them share in the program, and get them back to the right room! It's a great time of sharing and celebrating the love of Christ with one another.
Surflight Theatre Trip While hills are a rarity in South Jersey, the Surflight hills were definitely alive with the Sound of Music! From the youngest child to the adult ensemble cast, the familiar and beloved sounds of this wonderful play were sweet music to our ears and hearts as the story of the Von Trapp family unfolded. While we had all seen the movie or play at least once, and for others many times before, we all agreed that you just have to love the story and music each and every time.
Homemade Ice Cream Social What a refreshing afternoon we spent as we churned, ate, and savored! A special thank you to Kirsten and Harry Granfors for mixing up all of the ingredients, to Denise and Jimmy Sunbury for bringing their ice cream makers and their strong arms, to all those who helped to churn, brought things for lunch, and helped to set up and clean up, and all those who brought their senses of humor and loving hearts to share! I think that covers everyone who was there!
We are so blessed in all of our program offerings to join together such special people who enjoy one another and try their best to share the love of Christ through their hearts, their minds, their spirits, and their actions! Thank you!
Mark your calendar!
- Adult Bible Study returns on Wednesday, Sept 12th, 10:00, followed by Soup, Song, and Sacrament! - A Walk in the Park-Palmyra Nature Cove, Monday, Sept 17th, 1:00 - PEP End of Good Ole Summertime Luncheon, Thursday, Sept 20th, Noon - Dinner at the Diner, Wed, Sept 26, 4:30

Many thanks for all of your donations for the library and the Holliday Gift Shop. Please continue to put your items in the Lutheran Care box just inside the front door. Another project being work on is to try to expand the collection of DVDs. Movies are shown daily in the Home's in-house movie theater to all residents. If you remove the martial arts, horror, and Chuck Norris movies, the collection is quite skimpy. If you have any DVDs in your collection that you'd like to "weed" out, we'd be glad to take them off your hands.

August a hot and dry month! The summer is a great time for vacations and trips, but please remember the church has continuing expenses throughout the year. A good way to support your church during these 'lean months' is using the free 'Simply Giving' program. Click for more info! And thanks! <
