Brothers and Sisters...
Saturday night we commissioned 37 senior high youth and 16 adults who traveled Sunday to the beautiful "tarheel" state of North Carolina. They will be spending time in the New Bern area working with a United Methodist Church relief agency that is continuing to help people recover from Hurricane Irene (Yes, it sometimes takes years to get relief and recovery work done!). This "Mission Mix" includes 33 members of Lord of Life and 20 friends of the congregation. As always, many of this year's participants have been on mission trips before. But it is also rewarding to see new people join the efforts too.
Since 1997, LOL has been traveling to diverse sites to provide help and support where needed. We have a reputation for serving in a variety of ways both here at home and in places near and far; Bosnia, India, Democratic Republic of Congo, Panama, Gulf Coast, New England, South and of course the Northeast. Wherever God sends us we have become instruments of hope and healing in the good Lord's hand. I thank God for all the ways in which you, the congregation, have supported these mission efforts. Thousands of volunteer hours have been expended to bring the Good News of God's love to people in need and in return lives have been changed for good!
I would like to ask all of you reading this article to join this year's effort by becoming a member of the LOL "home team". All you need do is pause each day this week (at the beginning of the day or at the end) and pray for all those youth and adults who have made the commitment of sharing their time, talent and treasure to "help expand God's kingdom of love and compassion". Then when they return safely home, be sure to look for their story on our website. You will be inspired and blessed!
Your Servant Brother,
Pastor David Jones |

Lord of Life Church Updates!
|
- Please Be Aware! That the locks have been changed on all the outside doors to the church as well as the interior main office doors. Council made this decision at the last meeting in June in order to better control access to the building. If you have need to access the building for a meeting or an upcoming event, please contact Debbie in the church office to sign out a key. If you feel you have a need to access the church on a more regular basis and would like a key assigned to you please contact Scott Glossner, Council President.
- Vision Update - At a special meeting this last Wednesday the 20th, Council met and began the work of moving forward with plans for living into our new Vision. In the very near future we will be organizing leadership teams in several areas. We sincerely thank the members of our Vision and Discernment Teams for giving us such a wonderful launching pad for future ministry together:

- Discernment Team 1: Craig Baechler, Myra Bell, Merle Brown, Scott Glossner, Erin Gordon, Doug Heinhold, Rick Osman
- Discernment Team 2 (AKA "The Dream Team"): Jim Ebersberger, Peter Edwardsen, Barb Godfrey, Doug Hess, Mary Jo Miserendino, Pat Rehberger, Brigitte Valesey, Julie Vorwerk
- Lord of Life Seminarian Update - Member of Lord of Life Gary Woodruff will begin his internship at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glen Rock, NJ on July 1. Ryan Paetzold was officially entranced into the candidacy process in May and is currently serving his Clinical Pastoral Education (hospital chaplaincy) requirement at Holy Redeemer Hospital in Pennsylvania. Please keep both of these young men in your prayers as they continue to discern God's path for their lives in ministry.
From Catherine Salender "This is another step on the path to ordination for Gary and I ask for the congregation to continue to pray for him and God's mission in his life. I am happy that Rev. Roger Spencer the pastor working with Gary during his vicarage. Thanks to Lord of Life for their prayers!"

"Summer is finally here!" - Rick Krause
The warm weather brings about some changes--and new opportunities--for our music ministry. New Life Choir will be taking a break during the summer months and will regroup in September. A special thanks goes out to all those who participated in the choir this year--we had a great time! It is truly a blessing to sing and spend time with such outstanding people!
Are you interested in offering your musical talents for our worship services? Do you would like to sing or play an instrument? Now is the time to do it! There are a variety of possibilities. A few men have discussed getting together to form a quartet, and a number of women have talked about singing a hymn in Spanish. Our youth and teens also have wonderful musical abilities. If you would be interested in offering your talent for a Saturday evening or Sunday morning worship service, please let Rick Krause or Sue Dreisbach know as soon as possible.
On Thursday August 9th, we will have an opportunity to attend a hymn festival entitled Christ among Us: Hymns That Span the Globe. It will be led by Michael Bedford and Bradley Illingboe. Also in attendance will be Scott Weidler, who has served the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America as Program Director for Worship and Music since 1995. Scott was involved with the development of our new hymnal, Evangelical Lutheran Worship. It should be a fun evening so please consider joining us!
In addition, there is a possibility of getting a group together for a behind-the-scenes tour of the largest pipe organ in the world. It has over 33,000 individual pipes and is located at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City! If you would be interested in going, please see Rick Krause as soon as possible. Please look for more information in the weeks ahead.

Sight and Sound Trip Review
They said we would be amazed by the show and amazed we were! The story of Jonah truly came to life! But, more importantly, the heart of the story was truly felt. It was great to share this special time with our friends at Prince of Peace, and we look forward to sharing more events with them.

SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL:
Summer Sunday School this year will be a one room experience with some really good material. If you are interested in teaching or helping with the program please contact Denise Sunbury or Pastor Sue through the church office for more information.
|
Thank you for all of the "goodies" being put into the Lutheran Care box. The residents and staff are most appreciative. Are you planning on doing any spring cleaning? If so, save any knick knacks for the Home. Items are used on the monthly sale table as well as for a residents' gift shop in December where residents select gifts for family members at no charge.

The tithe: God's provision for the work of the temple As the people of Israel were en-route to the promised land, God set aside one of the tribes, the Levites, to be responsible for his tabernacle (temple). God's people were to provide for them through their regular giving - setting aside of a tenth of their produce or earnings (tithe). In this way, the Levites could devote themselves to the temple service and not have to concern themselves about their daily needs. Tithing is a way of providing for the ministry of the church.

Holy Humor...
A religious man is on top of a roof during a great flood. A man comes by in a boat and says "get in, get in!" The religous man replies, " no I have faith in God, he will grant me a miracle." Later the water is up to his waist and another boat comes by and the guy tells him to get in again. He responds that he has faith in god and god will give him a miracle. With the water at about chest high, another boat comes to rescue him, but he turns down the offer again cause "God will grant him a miracle." With the water at chin high, a helicopter throws down a ladder and they tell him to get in, mumbling with the water in his mouth, he again turns down the request for help for the faith of God. He arrives at the gates of heaven with broken faith and says to Peter, I thought God would grand me a miracle and I have been let down." St. Peter chuckles and responds, "I don't know what you're complaining about, we sent you three boats and a helicopter."
