Brothers and Sisters...
At our last congregational council meeting in May, we approved the Vision Team's recommendation for a new Purpose Statement, Guiding Principles and Strategic Directions for Lord of Life. We believe that everything we do in the near future can be filtered through this faithful lens as we take actions that help us more consistently and fully love God and our neighbor. Our new Purpose Statement is as follows...
"Lord of Life is a welcoming community of forgiven people proclaiming the perfect love of Jesus Christ!"
Throughout the process of "envisioning", our congregation has sought to be biblically-based, Christ-centered and graciously-focused. I thought it might prove helpful in this article to draw some connections between holy scripture and our new mission statement. All of the biblical references are reflections of how the early church described its mission as an emerging Christian community.
Lord of Life - Saint Paul writes, "So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory." Colossians 3:1-4 (NRSV) is a Welcoming Community - Saint Paul writes, "Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God." Romans 15:7 (NRSV)
of Forgiven People - Saint Paul writes, "Put away from you all bitterness and wrath and anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice, and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you." Ephesians 4:31-32 (NRSV)
Proclaiming - Saint Peter writes, "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light." 1 Peter 2:9 (NRSV)
the Perfect Love - Saint John writes, "Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us." 1 John 4: 11-12 (NRSV)
of Jesus Christ - Saint Paul writes, "Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Philippians 2:9-11 (NRSV)
Sisters and brothers, it is one thing to have a vision for ministry and that is good! But even better is our willingness to allow the Spirit of God to empower us for ministry on our faith journey together. Then God will get the glory and we will truly be at our best!
Your Brother in CHRIST,
Pastor David Jones

Sounds of Joy at Lutheran Care-Monday, June 4th, 1:30
Your help would be greatly appreciated as we share God's love through Word and song with our friends at Lutheran Care. We need people to bring the residents to the Chapel, help them with their hymnals, and offer a warm touch and joyous smile to brighten everyone's day! This month, the Celebration Ringers will be leading us in some of favorite hymns. Please let Sue know if you need a ride. A Walk in the Park-Smithville Park, June 5th, 1:30
Come join us as we enjoy God's natural world as we walk the lake trail at Smithville. We'll be walking on hard pack ground as well as wooden walkways. Take off at a brisk pace or meander along slowly taking in the sights. Either way, we'll enjoy being immersed in God's creation. There is always a steady arm to hold onto if you need help. America's Keswick Community Hymn Sing and Luncheon, Thursday, June 7th
This month's theme is the music of Bill and Gloria Gaither. Please contact Sue by June 1st to reserve a seat for this special time of worship, reflection, song, and fellowship!
Sight and Sound trip to Jonah! Thursday, June 14th

Save the dates!

Lutheran Care Things are picking up speed as the Auxiliary plans for June Day (June 9th 10-3). Mark that date on your calendar as a day of fun, games, and food. Lord of Life has been asked to provide two plain cakes for that day for the Strawberry/Ice Cream Booth. If you can help, please contact Carol at 609-654-4077. There is always something in the Lutheran Care (LC) box. Thank you all for your help. The staff and residents at LC appreciate your generosity. Always being accepted are: greeting cards (the free ones that you get in the mail), nail polish and remover, cardigan sweaters (used as bed jackets), and stuffed animals of all sizes (small are used in birthday bags, large are used at June Day).
PEP/YAHS Luncheon Review What a nice afternoon we spent with our friends from Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Marlton. Good food and conversation were first on the menu. A special program about the training of seeing eye dogs followed. What a dedicated group of people who raise these dogs and then give them up to be trained for those in need. And what special puppies we met as well!

Need Saturday Night 6 pm service people to run projection - Can you Help ?
We are still looking for another person to advance the slides at the 6pm service (so Alan isn't over scheduled) - training is available. If you can help occasionally (like once per month or so if we get a few people) please contact Bill Dreisbach or email to lordlife.news@gmail.com. Thanks to Alan R. for supporting this so far!

An offering is first of all an act of worship
Ever been at the receiving end of help by a modern day good Samaritan? Someone who helped you when in trouble or who saved your life? Your gratitude to that person is genuine and you want to 'pay back'. God did the same through Jesus Christ. We didn't deserve his rescue mission. An offering is not payback - it is gratitude! It is an act of worship, for our God is worthy of our praise and honor through our gifts of time, talents, and treasures.
Stewardship Team Needed
We still have the council stewardship position open, and are looking for volunteers to support our year round emphasis and the fall campaign. If interested please contact Pastor Dave. Thanks!

Notice on CHANGE to your LifeLines Subscription!
|
Starting in June the LifeLines we will be changing our service provider from 'Constant Contact' to 'Vertical Response' which will save the church much needed funds for our ministries. The email will start to come from "Lord_of_Life_Lutheran_Church@mail.vresp.com" instead of this "LordLife.News@gmail.com" and will look a bit different from this current newsletter, but will continue to have relevant info about the Church and its ministries! Here is a link to help ensure you get each and every issue by adding to your 'Safe Sender List' on your email program. http://tinyurl.com/78xdo5t Let us know if you have any problems!

Our group will be helping to rebuild houses and help with ongoing clean-up efforts. It's not too late to make a Miles to NC donation to help with the costs for transportation of the group. A huge thank you to all who helped with the Car Wash/Bake Sale/Rummage Sale!

Holy Humor...
The following are actual questions written to pastors from children across the world. Dear Pastor, I know God loves everybody but He never met my sister. Yours sincerely, Arnold. Age 8 Dear Pastor, Please say in your sermon that Peter Peterson has been a good boy all week. I am Peter Peterson. Sincerely, Pete. Age 9 Dear Pastor, My father should be a minister. Every day he gives us a sermon about something. Robert Anderson, age 11 Dear Pastor, I'm sorry I can't leave more money in the plate, but my father didn't give me a raise in my allowance. Could you have a sermon about a raise in my allowance? Love, Patty. Age 10
