Thoughts in Print - by Pastor Sue

Sometimes it just works out this way - Mother's Day falling within the season of Easter! I can't think of a better way to keep the Easter feeling alive. Think about it, more flowers, more time spent together with family... well, for most of us anyway! For most, Mother's day continues the Easter message of Jesus' resurrection and hope for today by reinforcing a sense of relationship, a sense of family, and many find their way to church on Mom's day even if they haven't for a long time.

For some, Mother's Day continues the Easter message of Jesus' resurrection and hope for today even when the day itself can be rather painful. For those folks (me included) for whom there may not be moms or children to celebrate with, or for whom relationships with moms or children are fractured, Mom's Day falling within the season of Easter still provides a sense of acceptance and family that can only be found within a community of faith; the place where Jesus' resurrection assures us that we are all God's beloved children in spite of what this life and the reality of human sin might otherwise bring.

Mother's Day can also be a time to remember all those special women who have played a role in helping us to grow in our faith. I will never forget the witness of my maternal grandparents, and particularly my grandmother, who never missed church if she could help it. She almost always wore a hat, as was the custom for women of her generation, and she sang hymns with a gusto that could only have been fed by the power of the Holy Spirit... I know this because she always sang completely off key.

She was there to see me Confirmed on Palm Sunday 1974 but she wasn't able to make it to my First Holy Communion the following Easter Sunday because she wasn't feeling well. I will also never forget my dad coming into my bedroom early that next morning to tell me that Grandma had passed away during the night. And to this day I'm convinced she and God conspired to pick that day. Knowing Grandma, she wouldn't have had it any other way...

For all of you women of faith out there, Happy Mother's Day! Thank you for your witness! And regardless of what memories and feelings the day may bring, remember that this is also EASTER! And that because of who Jesus is there is hope and promise for us far beyond the relationships of this world. May that reality fill you with peace and joy! Christ is Risen! He is Risen Indeed! Alleluia! Amen!

= ) Peace, Pastor Sue

Wednesday morning Mom's Bible Study, Spring Session  meets from 9:30 until 11:30am.  Childcare is available!  We are reading and discussing "God is in the Laundry Room" by Susan Senechal.  This study includes 8 sessions and will end June 6th.  Flyers are available on the bulletin board.  Contact Lisa Spector to sign up or if you have any questions!
You are welcome to join at any time, to bring a friend, and 'no worries' if you can't make all of the meetings!  Books for this are $8.

Clean up for a Cause!  Sat May 19th 9am!

Are your closets stuffed to capacity? Is your garage full of "junk"?  Does your basement have lots of "stuff" in it that you don't need?

Never fear, you can now get rid of it and help a great cause!  The Senior High Youth are holding a rummage sale on May 19, 2012 and we need your junk.  All proceeds will help defray this year's mission trip to North Carolina.

Box it all up and give us a call.  We'll even come get it from you.  Call Barb Wagner  609-859-0404  or email Linda Jagiela at novedlinda@comcast.net to arrange a pick up and let us know what you will donate.

Please come out and support our event.  Maybe you will find a treasure at the rummage sale (it's only junk when it is sitting unused in your basement).  Don't forget to get your car washed by the kids and to take home a tasty treat from our bake sale!

Grace Place News

Grace PlaceGrace Place has been busy!  Last week the children were treated to an owl show by Cedar Run Refuge.  We learned about the habitat of owls and met two real live owls...Swam and Otis.  Swam hooted the whole time he was here.
On Friday, May 11th, the children celebrated Mother's Day by treating their Moms and Caregivers to a special day.  Ms. Ruth's class invited Mom's to join in the whole class day with songs, circle time, playground, snack, story time, and craft.  Ms. Jill's class had a tea party with children made cookies and flowers.  All that came had a great time.

Things are picking up speed as the Auxiliary plans for June Day (June 9th 10-3). Mark that date on your calendar as a day of fun, games, and food.   Lord of Life has been asked to provide two plain cakes for that day for the Strawberry/Ice Cream Booth.  If you can help, please contact Carol at 609-654-4077.
There is always something in the Lutheran Care (LC) box.  Thank you all for your help.  The staff and residents at LC appreciate your generosity.  Always being accepted are: greeting cards (the free ones that you get in the mail), nail polish and remover, cardigan sweaters (used as bed jackets), and stuffed animals of all sizes (small are used in birthday bags, large are used at June Day).

Stewardship Nuggets

God models Giving
Why is giving important? Because God modeled it! He gave his one and only son (John 3:16). God's gift once and for all broke down the wall of sin that had separated us from Him. Our giving is also a way of connecting with God. It is our way of saying to God, "Here Lord, accept my gift. It is only a small token of gratitude for what you have done for me. It is a visible expression of my trust in you. Use me to be a blessing to others through this gift."

Contribution Statements Available

Your Periodic Contribution Statements reflecting 2012 contributions are available in your church mailboxes beginning Sunday May 13.  Please pick them up!  And thanks for supporting the Ministries of your Church!

Notice on CHANGE to your LifeLines Subscription!

calendarStarting with the June issue of the LifeLines we will be changing our service provider from 'Constant Contact' to 'Vertical Response' which will save the church much needed funds for our ministries.  The email will start to come from "Lord_of_Life_Lutheran_Church@mail.vresp.com" instead of this "LordLife.News@gmail.com" and will look a bit different from this current newsletter, but will continue to have relevant info about the Church and its ministries!  Here is a link to help ensure you get each and every issue by adding to your 'Safe Sender List' on your email program.   http://tinyurl.com/78xdo5t   Let us know if you have any problems!

TidBits...

Holy Humor...

There's this cathedral that's still being worked on, and the workers have rigged a "cage elevator" inside so they can get material up and down to the upper floors. A characteristic of these "cage elevators" is that the doors (gate) must be closed manually for them to be "called" to another floor.
One day one of the workers, Peter by name, takes the elevator to the top floor, and it is subsequently needed on the first floor by the sexton. Unfortunately, Peter forgot and left the door open. After the sexton rings for the elevator a couple times, to no avail, he yells up for the worker to send the lift back down. Visitors to the cathedral were treated to this sight: The sexton of the cathedral, head tipped up, yelling up to the heavens:
"Peter! CLOSE THE GATES!!!"
