April 16, 2012 Lord of Life Lutheran Church
L i f e L i n e s
It takes a whole church to remember and celebrate Holy Week and Easter! A BIG THANK YOU to everyone whose creative energy helped to make this time such a wonderful experience! Thank you to musicians to decorators to AV folks to singers to readers to greeters to ushers to communion assistants to altar guild members to the players in the Holy Thursday tableau and to all of those who shared in these most holiest of services by worshiping. Our worship is the work of the people who share their time and talents to make these and all of our worship services true celebrations of the saving grace of our Risen Christ! - Thanks to All!

Thoughts in Print - by Pastor Sue
CHRIST IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN INDEED! ALLELUIA! What truly wonderful words. Once again we're saying them with gusto because Easter is here. After the 40 days of reflection and renewal of the Lenten season it seems like a welcome release to be able to proclaim these words. It is Easter that gives us the hope and promise of a future that has been secured for us by God's saving grace evident in Jesus' resurrection.
I can't think of a better time to launch into the next phase of planning for our future here at Lord of Life than while we are still celebrating this season of light and life. On Sunday, April 22nd at 4:00 in the afternoon we have a chance to come together and spend some time focusing on just that, the future. A future that is as bright and vibrant as it has ever been because of the power of the Holy Spirit alive and well in our midst.
So come! Help set the tone and direction for that future! Respond to the power of the resurrection and what it can mean for your life and the lives of those around you. Be there on Sunday afternoon and be part of the process!
And while you're at it - continue to say those wonderful Easter words with all the energy you can muster. Let them warm your heart and fill your soul. And know that they are part of the most amazing gift ever given - CHRIST IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN INDEED! ALLELUIA!
Peace, Pastor Sue = )

On April 12, fourteen youth & adults traveled to Palmyra Cove for a clean up service project. We found some interesting pieces of trash. Pastor Sue even wrote a song about it! In the end, we collected 16 bags of trash and several bulk items we could not fit in bags. If we had more bags, we would have collected more. This was collected on a trail that was about a mile long. I am always amazed at how easy the kids are to work with and just how happy they are to work together. It was hard work and they were joking, singing & laughing at what we had found. If you have some time, please visit Palmyra Cove. It's a very nice trail along the water and a little cleaner today thanks to the youth at Lord of Life. - Marie Lamb Link to Photos

Penny Miller - Notes from Haiti
|
Last month I joined the Hope Alive medical team going to Haiti. It was my fourth trip. It was a smaller group consisting of 1 nurse, 1 doctor and 3 lay people. When we arrived we noticed a lot of changes. An addition was added to the clinic to house mission team guests. This helps save on hotel expenses. We would be staying in these new quarters.
The kitchen was upgraded and now the women don't cook on the floor with a camp stove but have a gas stove with a working oven. Counters were built for work space and there are shelves for plates, bowls and glasses. This is far below what we are used to in America but quite grand in Haitian standards.
Over 500 patients were seen in 4 days at the Mariani clinic by Dr. Doug and 2 nurses. The Haitian doctors and nurse were also there to care for patients during the normal clinic hours. Necessary medicines were given with instructions to return for refills when needed.
We had the opportunity to visit World Harvest Orphanage during Sunday church services and had a fun afternoon with the children. We shared gifts and candy with them, held them, and played games. They all wanted their picture taken and they all wanted to take pictures. It was a fun afternoon to be with these children. Some are orphans but most are there because their parents cannot afford to care for them.
I also had time to meet with the 3 people who were involved with the sewing program last year. Madame Francois is now going to sewing school to advance her sewing skills. She has also agreed to teach classes to the new sewing students. Our new class has 15 women and 3 men. Each student is selected by need and may not have a current occupation. Through an interpreter I explained the purpose of this program which is for each of them to learn the trade of sewing and be able to earn a living in a year's time. They will all have the supplies they need as well as a treadle sewing machine. All were very grateful and appreciative to have this opportunity.
I would like to thank everyone for their contributions of fabrics, notions, and hard work during the fundraisers. I will continue to collect fabric, notions and patterns and ship them to Haiti throughout the year. There is still great need in Haiti and great opportunity for us to be part of God's plan.
-- Thank you all, Penny Miller

What you put in is what you get out A farmer decided to cut back on the amount of wheat seeds at seeding time - to save some money. But as the seeds sprouted and grew, he soon found out that his wheat stand was too thin and soon the weeds took over. His neighbour didn't skimp on the seeding and his crop quickly grew thick enough to stay ahead of the weeds and he was able to harvest a crop. In the same way, you cannot be a part-time Christian hoping that you'll do just enough or have just enough faith to get to heaven. God looks for hearts that are fully committed to him.

Our cup runneth over...
Well, at least our digital data 'cup' continues to grow. But YOU can help for free AND help yourself too - by getting a free DropBox online 'cloud' storage account with the link below. For each person who subscribes using this link:
http://db.tt/auqVPFl the church gets an extra 500MB online storage free! And you get your own private free 500MB account (that's 500 million bytes of data) just for yourself to use also. The church uses its account extensively for weekly service projection, storage of photos and videos, and other shared information used by the ministries of the church. It is a great service for us. So if you could just help out by clicking and signing up (again free of charge to you AND the church) that would be great! Thanks!

Holy Humor...
When my daughter, Kelli, said her bedtime prayers, she would bless every family member, every friend, and every animal (current and past). For several weeks, after we had finished the nightly prayer, Kelli would say, "and all girls." This soon became part of her nightly routine, to include this closing.
My curiosity got the best of me and I asked her, "Kelli, why do you always add the part about all girls?" Her response, "Because everybody always finish their prayers by saying 'All Men'!"
