Brothers and Sisters...

In our last edition of the LifeLines, Pastor Sue spoke clearly about the importance of Lenten discipline.  I want to remind you once more that it is time for the 2012 Lord of Life Lenten challenge!  I ask you...

  •  When was the last time you read one of the four gospels in its entirety?  (Mark's gospel is a great start!)  Have you ever taken a stroll on the Meditation Walk and spent time using the devotions designed for our unique series of fourteen "stations of the cross?"  (You will see the story in a whole new light if you do!)
  • Can you remember a Lenten season when you worshiped all 5 weekends in preparation for Easter and even made Holy Week more meaningful by gathering with other Christian brothers and sisters for services on Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday and Good Friday?  (Worship will provide a focus that renews and strengthens week to week!)
  • Are you willing to commit to being present for Wednesday midweek meals, fellowship and devotions with other members of LOL who are journeying with you to the cross and beyond to Easter?  (Sharing in this midweek holy habit, we will be bound together as a community in ways that provide long lasting and sustaining memories!)
  • Might this be the occasion to set aside time on a daily basis to pray for your family, the congregation, the nation and the world?  (Time spent in this way will prepare us to make Godly decisions in our daily choices!)
  • Will you be willing to sacrifice some "pleasure purchases" to support the ELCA's Global Barnyard Project with your financial gifts?  (Sacrificial giving begins with the awareness that we are incredibly blessed with much, much more than the basics and that perhaps we need to "live more simply so that others may simply live!")

I mention these Lenten opportunities to challenge you and your family to grow closer to "the heart and mind of Christ" by taking Lent more seriously and joyfully than ever before!  If we follow this year's Lenten discipline, I trust we will all be more fit for faithful living and God will get the glory!Pastor Dave indoor head

Traveling with you through Lent 2012,

                        Your brother in CHRIST,

                           Pastor David Jones

CELEBRATE LIFE!

Helping Hands-Monday, Feb. 27th, 1:00
It's time again to cut those rolls and fill those sandwiches for the clients of the Christian Caring Center!  You can be a part of this ministry by purchasing meat or cheese, helping to make the sandwiches, delivering the sandwiches to the Christian Caring Center in Browns Mills, or making a financial contribution for the purchase of supplies.  We have a wonderful time of sharing while we're making and would love to have you join us!

Men's Breakfast-Wednesdays at 8am and Adult Bible Study - Wednesdays at 10am

bible

Many of our gospel readings in this church year come from the book of Mark.  As part of our Lenten discipline, we will be reading through and reflecting upon these writings.  How does Mark approach the life of Jesus?  It's quite a journey!  Remember that no Bible Study experience is necessary to join in.  We are all students who bring our lives, our open hearts, and our own faith journeys to make these studies such wonderful learning experiences.  Please know that you can join in anytime and everyone is always welcome!

Soup, Song, and Sacrament-Wednesday, March 7th, 11:30

Following the Adult Bible Study, we invite everyone to join us for an extra time of fellowship as we break bread together and share in our Lord's Supper.

Lutheran CareSounds of Joy at Lutheran Care-Monday, March 5th, 1:30
Your hands and hearts are needed as we share the love and care of Jesus with our friends at the Lutheran Care.  This month we will be looking at Lenten hymn stories and devotions.  We always need more help with bringing residents to the Chapel, helping them to follow the program, and then returning them to their rooms.  Your hands will help to make it possible for more people to come!  Please  see Sue Dreisbach for more information.

America's Keswick Easter Community Hymn Sing-Thursday, April 5th, 9:00
We are making our reservations now for this special time of worship.  Imagine singing some of your favorite hymns with 500 other people!  Enjoy a special time of devotion, a testimony from one of the men of the Colony of Mercy, Keswick's addiction recovery program, and enjoy a special lunch.  Please sign up by Wednesday, March 7th to reserve your seat at our table!  The cost is $10 for the morning.

Save the date!  PEP Gathering-Coney Island Day, Thursday, March 15th, Noon
What does Coney Island bring to mind?  How about hot dogs, French fries, ice cream, snow cones, midway games!  They'll all be a part of our adventure!

SIGHT AND SOUND TRIP!  Thursday, June 14th Jonah and Whale

We have our reservations, and we still have room for you if you would like to join in.  The total for the trip will be $98, with final payment due on March 5th.  The price includes transportation, an amazing family style lunch at Hershey Farms Restaurant, and the show.  Final payment is due March 5th.  Please make out a check to Lord of Life and place it in Sue Dreisbach's mailbox.

Tundra Swan Tour Review We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day nor a better time than we had as we explored the world of the tundra swans at Whitesbog Village.  We truly felt a part of God's creation as we learned about these beautiful birds, and then basked in the heat and brightness of God's sunlight as we gazed upon them on the water.

Knowing God's Word - Women of Faith Study Guide
Many women find reading the Scriptures to be a daunting prospect, let alone actually studying them.  Questions arise.  Is studying the Bible different from reading it?  Why do we study God's Word?  How do you study God's Word?  Knowing God's Word will prepare women to approach the Bible with confidence and excitement.

Please contact Lisa Spector at Teachjodi97@yahoo.com or 268-2842, OR Anne-Marie Pifer at Jubilee22@hotmail.com or 268-2282 to sign up or if you have any questions. You are welcome to join any time and no worries if you can't make every meeting!

Grace Place NEWS!

Many thanks to the parents and church members who volunteered their time to teach the children of Grace Place the diversity and customs of nine different countries. Our countries included England, France, Spain, Italy, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Greece, and Africa (ok, it's a continent).  The children took a special virtual airplane ride (thanks to Eric Sinn) from Grace Place to the fellowship hall where the countries were located.  For snack they were treated to specialty foods from each of the countries.  Each day the children took a bagful of crafts home that were made at each country.  We traveled many miles all the while the children had smiles on their faces!  Checkout the PHOTOS HERE!

On March 1st, at 7:00 pm Grace Place is sponsoring a seminar entitled "Leap into Kindergarten".  Parents are invited to attend.  Several area Kindergarten teachers will sit as a panel to discuss what they would like to see from children coming from preschool into Kindergarten.  This is an attempt by Grace Place to learn and bridge the gap between preschool and Kindergarten.  Admission is free, just call ahead for reservations so we know how many chairs to set up.  609-268-2756

Men's Ministry Dinner

CALLING ALL MEN OF FAITH AT LORD OF LIFE AND FRIENDS !

Please join us this Monday, February 27, 2012 (6PM - 7:30PM) at PJ Whelihans (On route 541 / Stokes Road in Medford) for our Men's fellowship Dinner.  We will gather in a private room and order off the menu (salad, sandwich or entree..it's your choice!)  This gathering is informal and conversational and will give us the opportunity to meet Pastor Tom O'Brien.  Tom is a Lutheran pastor who was raised in the Roman Catholic tradition, served for 4 years in the US Navy aboard the USS Independence (aircraft carrier), labored for 31 years with PSE & G, worked for Catholic Charities as a drug and alcohol counselor, found his way into the Lutheran Church later in life and was ordained as a pastor in March 2006.  Tom also has an incredible story to share about FORGIVENESS as related to one of his sons (who was almost beaten to death) and the perpetrators of that crime.  Please feel free to reply to this E-mail or simply show up for dinner.  We offer a warm welcome to all and any men (and their teenage sons) who would like to join us; especially those who have yet to attend one of our dinners!  Hope to see you this Monday!  Have a blessed LENT!!!    PASTOR DAVID JONES

Holy Humor... Unanswered Prayer

The preacher's 5 year-old daughter noticed that her father always paused and bowed his

head for a moment before starting his sermon.

One day, she asked him why.  "Well, Honey," he began, proud that his daughter was so

observant of his messages.  "I'm asking the Lord to help me preach a good sermon."

"How come He doesn't answer it?" she asked.

OUR Mission Statement: Lord of Life Lutheran Church is a uniquely blended "family" of God's people who share their faith and life together through learning, serving and celebrating. We are committed to:
Growing spiritually as we open our lives to God's will and teachings.
Growing in service and stewardship as we reach out to support one another and our neighbors in need.
Growing in Christian outreach as we share the "Good News" of Jesus Christ with all people in the community inviting them into a deeper fellowship with God and His people.

Celebrating the joy of being loved by God and growing together in faith is who we are.
