Thank you one and all for the many donations of sewing notions and fabric. All items collected have been packed and shipped to Haiti. Hopefully most will be there when I arrive the end of February.
Last year 3 Haitians were chosen for this new sewing project . Over the last year they have been busy sewing and making a wide variety of items with donated fabric at no cost to them. One woman has been sewing school uniforms. One gentleman has been making men's shirts. All have been fairly successful with their sewing efforts. Because of this program they have more now than a year ago. They have been able to save some money to provide for themselves and their families.
When I return in February we will try to expand this project. The clinic administrator has been concerned with the prostitution problem near the clinic in Mariani. He has met with some of the women asking how the clinic can help them find a new way of life. Their response was for an alternative to provide for themselves and their families and sewing was mentioned as a desired occupation. Another meeting with the women and Renaud (the administrator) will take place in January.
Meanwhile I have been searching for treadle sewing machines. I have been in touch with an antique dealer in Delaware who has 10 machines for me to come look at. McClean Tax Service of Barnaget, NJ has agreed to purchase any or all of these machines for this project. My son-in-law Michael has offered to drive to Delaware with me, and help transport the machines back to NJ. We will go January 7th.
I thank you for your prayer support ask that you continue to pray for the people in Haiti and this project as it evolves.

Saturday 'African American Roots' Service
Jan 21 - 6pm at Lord of Life
|
Join us for a special worship service this Saturday evening at 6:00 as we celebrate our African American Roots. We'll weave together liturgy from This Far by Faith, the Lutheran African American hymnal, gospel music and spirituals, and a special message from Pastor Louisa Groce. At the age of 80, Pastor Groce became the oldest person ever ordained by the ELCA. Now in her 90s, Pastor Groce will share her ministry with us on this special evening.
