Day of Commemoration
Memorial Day challenges us to live so as to honor the sacrifices made by members of the military. We Thank You. We value our freedom because of the heavy price people have paid for it. Likewise, every day we're challenged to live as to honor Jesus' supreme sacrifice. He calls us to spend our "priceless liberty" using our blessings to bless others.

Thoughts in Print - by Pastor Dave
Brothers and Sisters...
Saturday, May 14, 2011 was a very special day for the Jones family. Our 28 year old son Benjamin was married to Victoria Brazitis. Many from our congregation have asked Renee and me, "How did it feel to have one of your own children marry?" In a word, GREAT!
Ben and Torie were united in marriage at Christ Episcopal Church in Alexandria, Virginia (a marvelous old colonial church which claims both George Washington and Robert E. Lee as former parishioners). Along with 60 other family members and closest friends, we witnessed the union of our son and his beaming bride (Ben was beaming too!).
I was truly comfortable NOT officiating at the service. I could simply be the father of the groom (Although I did have the opportunity to chant Psalm 67 as part of our worship experience.) Even more pleased that I was not leading worship was Renee who had me by her side during the entire service. We even sat in the front pew together where I could be sure she had enough tissues for the tears of joy she cried.
What a blessing it was to have Rev. Erica lead worship. She had spent a number of pre-marital sessions with Ben and Torie getting to know them fairly well. This Episcopal priest did a beautiful job of making everyone feel welcome as we navigated through the wedding and communion liturgies of The Book of Common Prayer.
Another highlight for me was the presence of our other two children. Older son Owen served as the best man and our daughter Rachel read a text from 1 John during the ceremony. It was great to have our California kids closer to home.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention how heavenly the music was throughout the afternoon. From the pre-service music played by cellist and pianist to the pipe organ accompanied processional and recessional all the way to tower bells ringing at the conclusion of the ceremony and the surprise bag piper at the entry way, we experienced some of the most joyous sounds possible on such a special day.
Following the wedding we all gathered together at one of Ben and Torie's favorite restaurants; a small, family-owned Italian eatery which served an intimate family style feast. The owners of La Strada couldn't have been more hospitable. We all felt like family and for that night we were! After much eating, conversing and traditional dancing, the bride and groom cut into their tirsmisu wedding cake and then invited all of us to enjoy the sweetness of the moment.
And in my heart of hearts, I prayed that God would help Ben and Torie keep their vows to "have and to hold from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until we are parted by death..."
Wow, what a blessed wedding day!
Your Brother in Christ, - Pastor David Jones

Show you care at Lutheran Care!
Monday, June 6th, 1:30
Sounds of Joy is the name of the program we present each month at the Lutheran Care in Moorestown. We seek to share the love of Christ through scripture and song along with heaping amounts of love as we spend time with our friends there. Your hands and heart would be greatly appreciated in helping to reach more people. Please prayerfully consider being a part of this wonderful outreach program. This month we will be celebrating God's gift of our natural world with some great hymns led by our Celebration Ringers and a devotion by Pastor Sue.

SHYM Miles to Ohio & Home!
The Senior High Youth Ministry's Summer Mission Trip to Ohio is Jun 26-Jul 2, and we will spend a week working and serving the people of Cleveland. Our time will be spent serving with the TEAMeffort, a Youth Mission Camp program, working on home repair projects and serving at a senior center, homeless shelter, and food bank.
HOW CAN YOU HELP? We have the 'Miles to Ohio & Home" -
Here's how it works:
1) Purchase as many miles as you like; one mile is $5.00. We have 921 miles to be purchased. This helps us with rental vans and fuel costs for the trip.
2) Once you buy the miles, your name is added to our "Support Team". You will get a card containing prayer needs for the trip, and a postcard from a youth participant.
3) Your gift not only supports the trip, but helps the youth gain a better understanding of what our calling to help others is all about as Christians.
4) For each mile purchased, a map in the entryway will be marked with a red line showing "how far we got to Ohio".
Thanks in advance for this donation to our service ministry and for helping both our youth and the people in Ohio. (checks to "Lord of Life Lutheran Church" re - Ohio SHYM trip)

Holy Humor:
A pastor at a church in South Dakota visited an elderly resident in a nursing home, who told the priest that he could remember when the old wooden church he attended couldn't get worm in the bitter South Dakota winter. The pastor's response: "That just goes to show that many are cold, but few are frozen".
