Brothers and Sisters...

Someone once said, "Serious challenges require serious faith !"  I agree!  I have served as pastor at Lord of Life for over 25 years and never have I doubted that God has a gracious and loving purpose for us to be his distinctly Lutheran Christian presence in this community.  But in the year 2011 we are facing some challenges that are downright daunting.

Our proposed spending plan is larger than ever before.  But our stewardship response has not demonstrated the level of committment necessary to accomplish the work God has called us to do together.

And yet the congregational council and staff truly beleive that God is calling us to move beyond some of the plateaus we have experienceed in giving, sharing of time, talent and treasure, worship attendance and membership.  If we are willing to trust where the Holy Spirit is leading us to go in the year 2011, then it's time for all of us to prayerfully consider what that means for our own serious faith response.

Lord of Life stands on the threshold of some serious choices!  Will we gladly and joyfully follow the God who calls us to grow in our ability to learn, serve and celebrate or will we pursue faithful but diminishing "business as usual"?

I believe it truly is time for us all to prayerfully consider what our Pastor David Jonesvery own "serious faith" response should be as we enter our 25th anniversary year not fearful but boldly faithful.  Yes, serious challenges require serious faith.  And God is more than able to provide that faith as the powerful gift we need to live in the light staying close to the heart and mind of Christ!

   Your Brother in Christ,

                     Pastor David Jones

 Pastor Sue's Ordination & Installation!

About 300 people (including 100 from Lord of Life) attended the Vicar Sue JOnesordination of Pastor Susan Jones into the clergy of the Evangelical  Lutheran Church in America on Feb 20th.  Bishop Riley and about a dozen pastors welcomed Sue into the clergy as we all shared in a wonderful time of worship and celebration.  Photos of this outstanding event are on our PHOTO PAGE at www.lordlife.us.

All are now welcome and encouraged to come and help us worship and celebrate together once again as we "install" Sue as our Pastor at Lord of Life Lutheran Church this Saturday evening Mar 5th at the 6pm service.

Congratulations to you, Sue!

 Ash Wednesday Services, Mar 9th

7 am, 12:15 pm, 7:30 pm

Ash Wednesday starts forty days (not counting Sundays) of Lent when we as Christians remember our sinfulness, repent, ask God's forgiveness, and recognize that God's forgiveness comes at an infinite price -- the death of Christ on the cross on our behalf. It is not meant as a time of false humility or prideful self-sacrifice. It reminds us that our sin separates us from God, who "demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).

3 D Lent:  Dinner, Discovery, and Devotions

Wednesdays, March 16, 23, 30, April 6, 13

6:00-8:00  for Senior High Youth-Adults

Make Wednesdays a part of your Lenten journey!  We'll begin with a simple communal meal of soup, bread, and dessert.  Then we'll break into three discovery study sessions:  Senior High Youth Ministry with Donna Yates; Developing Our Prayer Life with Pastor David Jones;  and  Lutheran Questions, Lutheran Answers:  Exploring Christian Faith, by Martin Marty, with Pastor Sue Jones.  We'll come back together once again to end our evening with shared devotions.  This is a wonderful way to make Lent a time of renewal in your spiritual journey.

 USHER EXTROADINARE!

Ella Dole After twelve years of faithful service, Ella Doel has stepped down as a weekly usher for our Prayer, Praise, & Thanksgiving service.  She began working alongside her husband, Ed, when this service was first begun, and her glowing smile has greeted all who entered ever since.  Ella will continue to serve when she is needed but is enjoying worshiping in her new found place in the sanctuary along with her 10:00 family.  Thank you, Ella, for being such a shining witness of God's love and grace to all of the lives you have touched and will continue to touch.

Holy Humor:

An elderly woman had just returned to her home from an evening of religious service when she was startled by an intruder. As she caught the man in the act of robbing her home of its valuables, she yelled, "Stop! Acts 2:38!" [Turn from your sin]
The burglar stopped dead in his tracks. Then the woman calmly called the police and explained what she had done.
As the officer cuffed the man to take him in, he asked the burglar,"Why did you just stand there? All the old lady did was yell a scripture at you."
"Scripture?" replied the burglar, "I thought she said she had an axe and two 38s!"
