Thoughts in Print - by Pastor Sue
Many times in my life God has challenged me to step out of my comfort zone; to learn how to put my own personal "stuff" away for a while and to listen to the leading of the Spirit. Over the last couple of weeks as we approach the Annual Meeting, and as we look forward to where God is calling all of us as the community of faith that is Lord of Life, I have had that sense again and it reminded me of a poem I became familiar with at seminary.
God's Making Us Over by Helen Kromer
My bungalow was modest with a simple one-floor plan;
But, all its quirks and foibles satisfied this simple man.
I knew the drains were leaking and the gutters rusted through;
The shingles had been warping and the paint was peeling too.
I knew it needed fixing and I thought I could afford
Some sort of small repair work, but God went overboard!
He kept on saying what could be, and how the place could look;
He said He'd take me over, and now I'm being took.
He's making me over, He's making me over,
I won't be the same anymore.
God's dug some new foundations; He's added several floors.
Why, the maintenance is frightful and He's multiplied my chores.
I put the question to Him. 'God, just how soon will You be through?'
'Why' He said, 'I never finish once I go to work on you.'
He's making us over, He's making us over, and we just can't be the same anymore."
I believe that God is always challenging us to take a good honest look at 'what is' as well as asking us to envision 'what could be'. What is the "could be" that God has in store for us as individuals and together? I hope you will join me in prayer and reflection as we approach our annual meeting. That God would reveal the "could be" for us as we continue to journey together in faith.

Thanks!
A great big thank you to all of the parents and confirmation coaches who helped to make the Chili-Cookoff such a success. For those who may not have heard, the eighth grade team won the voting for the best chili !!
Chili Team Leaders: 6th grade: Michele Ingrao & Tina Steinhour, 7th grade: Marie Lamb, Donna Roemer & Colleen Welling, 8th grade: Beth Hopkins & Denise Mozitis, Corn Bread & Salad Team Leaders: Becky Christianson & Barb Wagner, Decorating Team Leaders
Cheryl Larson & Yvette Parker
And thank you as well to those who contributed to the "Super-Bowl" collection. The Steelers were the "winners" in our challenge even though they were not the ultimate winners of the big game. Show's ya what we know. But we managed to collect a total of $650.00 which will be divided evenly between the Bridge of Peace Community Church Food Pantry in Camden and the ELCA World Hunger Appeal. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

Christian Caring Center
This month our featured items for the food pantry at the CCC are Cereal and Boxed or Dry Milk. They can be placed in the shopping cart in the narthax along with clothes, blankets, hygiene items, and small houseware items.
Madelyn Mears-Sheldon, the director of the Christian Caring Center recently shared that there have already been 55 Code Blue days. As a designated Code Blue shelter for Burlington County, the CCC hosts the homeless during frigid weather at the Baptist Church on Junction Road in Browns Mills. Our blankets and hygiene items are particularly appreciated during this cold winter. Also if you would like a receipt for your donations please put a note in mailbox #101 with your name and items donated.
The folks who use the services of the Christian Caring Center appreciate the generosity of Lord of Life. Many thanks from them for your ongoing generosity.
The Loss Support Group Celebrates Its 1st Anniversary
Last February we held the first Loss Support group at Lord of Life. Over the course of the year 19 different people from both Lord of Life and from the surrounding community have attended at least one group. We have supported each other around the loss of loved ones; loss of employment; loss of health; loss of mobility which comes with aging and/or health issues; and loss of expectations in some of our relationships. We have learned that in general the dynamics of loss have many similarities.
This past Sunday our closing hymn was "O Christ, Your Heart, Compassionate" by Herman G. Stuempfle, Jr. One of the lines was, "Lord, join our hearts with those that weep that none may weep alone". It reminded me of one of our planning meetings for the group when we talked about wanting to provide a safe place for people to come to find support when dealing with losses so that they did not have to feel alone. We wanted to provide a place where people could come and voice their concerns or feelings and know that others cared. People have shared their tears, their fears and their struggles. Amazingly we have also found the importance of laughter in the healing process.
People have offered some interesting ideas that they have used to cope which have helped others to try new ways of dealing with the feelings which come with loss. Scrapbooks, photo albums, photographs, a lending library available for the group, personal items, special rocks, journeling, phone numbers, quotes from the Bible or favorite books and of course our stories, have all been shared. Perhaps we have created a place where people do come and "join their hearts" together.
As we enter into our second year we want to extend a warm welcome to anyone at Lord of Life or a friend beyond who might find help at the group. We meet the first Tuesday of every month from 7:00- 8:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall. Please call the church office if you would like to join us and need transportation.

Holy Humor:
On their way home from attending an church service, little Charlie asked his mother, "Is it true, Mommy, that we are made of dust like the minister said tonight?"
"Yes, darling," his mother answered.
"And is it true that we go back to dust again when we die?"
"Yes, dear," his mother replied.
"Well, Mommy, when I said my prayers last night and looked under the bed,
I saw someone who is either coming or going!"
