Update on the Call for 2nd Pastor

After prayerful consideration and study the Call Committee has recommended and the Church Council has accepted the recommendation for Sue Jones (our former vicar) to be considered as our 2nd Pastor.  Now the decision is up to the congregation.   Sue Jones will preach at all 3 worship services on Dec 4th & 5th.  After each service each confirmed member of the congregation will be able to cast a private vote as to whether or not Sue should be called. If we proceed beyond that point, finance and church council will put together a financial package that would be offered to Sue.

CHRISTIAN CARING CENTER THANKS YOU!

GIVING TREE
The tags are on the tree and flying off as quickly as we can replace them!  We are once again reaching out with God's love to bring smiles to the children in families helped by the Christian Caring Center.  We are trying to provide 300 Christmas gifts for that blessed celebration.  If you can help, please take a tag, purchase the gift, and place it unwrapped under the Giving Tree with the tag attached.  The gifts will be taken to the Caring Center on Sunday, Dec. 12th.  Thank you for sharing your hearts and resources.

pony express logoThank You for helping on the Pony Express Stewardship Campaign!
The trails are almost done, there are a few 'late ponies' out there, but thanks for everyone who helped make our pony express stewardship drive this year a success!  If you still haven't seen the bag (or gotten an email) please email pony@lordlife.us and we will find out where it is and get your 'trailboss' to unclog things.  It's easy - just put your estimate of sharing cards into the saddle bag and speed it on to the next home!

Christian Caring Center

The Christian Caring Center now has two sites for donations.  Food donations are still being taken at their original location on Lakehurst Rd. in Browns Mills.  All other donations are being collected at their new thrift store, The Village Thrift Shop, located at 87 Hanover Street in Pemberton.  The hours are Monday through Friday from 10-7 and on Saturday from 10-4.  The phone number for The Village Thrift Shop is 609-894-4500.

Furniture is accepted on a limited basis due to space restraints.  It is best to call with your questions about any large item you might want to donate.  When calling ask for the manager John or Marion, the board member who oversees the operation.

It is an exciting time of growth for the Christian Caring Center and they continue to be grateful for the support they receive from our congregation.

I Am Grateful (from Stewardship for the 21st Century)

A number of years ago, I served a good supportive congregation, but was not content. I was instead disappointed that I had not been chosen for a new call. During that period I began to earnestly study Paul's letter to the Philippians. Paul was in prison. His future was dim. Yet, among other important faith professions in that letter, he wrote "I have learned to be content with whatever I have" and "rejoice in the Lord always!"

I prayed to have Paul's outlook. I wondered about how I could daily possess that perspective. I became aware that when someone asked me how I was, my standard remark was, "I am good."

So, I made a simple change to help me remember Paul's perspective. From then on when someone asked me, "How are you?" I responded, "I am grateful."

I need to add that I am not always grateful. It is more like a prayer, "God help me in all circumstances to be grateful." It is a simple public confession to remember that in my baptism I am called to be steward of the mysteries of God. God has entrusted me with everything I have and am. I am not entitled to the life, wife, family, church, time, talent, money and opportunities that God has entrusted me to steward.

Sometimes this response is tested. When our 39-year-old son-in-law had a complete blockage of his right carotid artery causing a major stroke, my perspective was challenged. In the midst of fear, grief and anxiety, I was eventually able to mumble, "I am grateful that God has provided medical resources to save his life; and for the support of family, friends and an attentive pastor who have prayed the prayers we were not able to utter."

In 2006, I told this story to a congregation that I was consulting. I particularly recall looking at a woman named Agnes. Her face was filled with as much discontent and disgust as anyone I had ever met. However, when I returned to the congregation five weeks later; Agnes came to me. I hardly recognized her due to the big smile on her face.

She immediately told me her story. "I work as a dispatcher in our local police department. I get yelled at a lot, but I decided to accept your challenge. Ever since that time, whenever someone in the department asks me, 'Agnes, how are you?' I give them a smile and tell them, 'I am grateful!' They are surprised when they look at me. Some even say,'What the heck has gotten into you?'"

When you are out and about and someone asks how you are, I challenge you to be like Agnes and respond,"I am grateful!" You will be surprised at some of the responses you will get. It will also help you to remember that you have the privilege and responsibility to be a steward of all God has entrusted to you.

Now tell me, "How are you?" And how are you going to respond when someone says, "For what?"

Code Blue Homeless Shelter

Dear Pastor Jones,

Pastor Linda Wood from Zion Lutheran in Riverside suggested that I contact you regarding our Code Blue shelter. This is our second year of sheltering homeless guests whenever Burlington County calls a Code Blue (meaning harsh winter weather could mean death for an unsheltered person).

We began our endeavor last year as Lutherans, Episcopalians, Moravians and Roman Catholics. Within a week of opening, we became simply Christians, striving to be the hands and feet of Jesus in this hurting world. We fed and sheltered homeless guests for 52 nights! The experience was a blessing to all involved.

I am reaching out to you and your congregation in the hopes that you may be interested in serving with us in some capacity. We could always use blankets (preferably used and clean), or perhaps there are some persons who would like to volunteer for an overnight stay.  There are always two volunteers on a shift. Attached, please find an FAQ sheet. I would be happy to come out and speak to your group and answer any questions you may have.

   Thank you and God Bless,
