Brothers and Sisters,
There
are times when certain things seem to go together. I strongly believe
that the recent announcement about our congregational meeting in
September and a devotional article from Christ in Our Home, written by Leah Krotz, an ELCA layperson, work well placed side by side:
Special Congregational Meeting: Sunday, September 19, 5:30 (Dessert Fellowship) & 6:00 (Meeting).
Meeting for the purpose of making three important decisions about (1)
the calling of a second pastor; (2) the envisioning process for Lord of
Life's future; and (3) sanctioning a 25th anniversary mission campaign.
All confirmed members are encouraged to be in prayerful consideration
of these matters and be sure to attend! * * * "Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." (Luke 12:32)
Will
tossed and turned, punching his pillow and trying in vain to sleep. It
was 3:00 a.m., and he had woken from a sound sleep with worries on his
mind: his business was struggling, his teenage daughter was dating a
boy he didn't approve of, and his dad was facing heart surgery. Even
the little things seemed big: the dishwasher wasn't working, both cars
needed oil changes, and he had forgotten an important church meeting.
As Will tried to relax, he remembered his mother soothing him when he
woke from bad dreams as a small child. She would brush his hair away
from his forehead, rub his back, and sing to him, "Sleep, baby, sleep.
Thy Father guards the sheep..." He hadn't thought of that lullaby in
years. Mom had told him that even when he woke up afraid in the night,
Jesus the good shepherd was always watching over him.
Will realized that this was still true. No matter what troubles and
worries he had, he could turn them over to his loving Savior. He began
to pray and fell asleep before his prayer was finished.
Loving Shepherd, I know that you hold me close. Watch over me and guide me all the days of my life. Amen. * * *
May
the Good Shepherd continue to lead and guide us as we "look back
faithfully...look forward boldly!" - Your Brother in Christ, Pastor Jones .

Thank You! We want to thank Mary Whelan, our Director of Music Ministry, for sharing her gifts with us for the past two years at worship and in leading the New Life and Youth Choirs. We wish her well in her future musical journeys.
A big thank you to everyone involved in VBS & most especially for giving all of us a chance to hear what they did during their time together during the Sunday service on August 8th! It is always such a delight to see & hear the children of our Congregation sharing what they learned. It was a special blessing to me to have them sing: "This is the Day the Lord has made, we will rejoice & be glad in it." I use that verse on all of may emails & therefore this was very close to my heart! God's blessings to very special people. -- Barbara Knapp
I wish to thank everyone that helped or participated in our latest and greatest Vacation Bible School. We had eighteen scenery painters, one hundred and three attendees, forty one adult helpers (including set up and clean up) and fifty-one Confirmation and Sr. High helpers. Whew, that's a lot of people in a rain forest!!! -- Jill Glossner |
Fishy Business...
Josh & his buddies caught this fish at Lake Stockwell by the Family Swi m Center. Our unofficial guess is about 6 pounds 14 inches. "Big Burtha" was then released back into the lake. Maybe you can get a fish too at the upcoming Lord of Life church picnic on Sep 12th. Bring your friends, your families and yourself too! Come enjoy the 'end of summer' with your Lord of Life community! ---- Marie Lamb

To the Congregation of Lord of Life...
Yet once again, a church congregation is saying a prayer for me. The last time was in the 90's while my grandmother was still alive and worrying if I wold turn out OK. Without family and the help of God, I would not be able to do what I do every day here.
For those who do not know me, if this gets posted, I'm a Kelly. I was in and around Lord of Life long before they had a church. We met in Indian Mills at that time and I was in my teens. Pastor Jones assisted in my wedding day nuptials 4 years ago.
Now I am in Afghanistan. I have a 10-month old at home. On my wedding anniversary I was on my way to an operating base to start my first mission as a (Seabee) CB in the U.S. Navy. This is a proud organization that my grandfather was a member of in World War II. So it runs in our family.
Thank you for your support. It means a lot. The only thing I would like to ask of you - Please pray for the entire Battalion 681's souls. We need all your help to bring us home safely.
--- Sincerely UT1 (SCW) Dennis Kelly 22NCR |

Holy Humor
A Sunday school
teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with
her five and six year olds. After explaining the
commandment to 'Honor thy father and thy mother,' she
asked, 'Is there a commandment that teaches us how to
treat our brothers and sisters?'
Without missing a
beat, one little boy answered, 'Thou shall not
kill.'
