Blessed to be a Blessing
Brothers and Sisters... When I take time
to reflect on the life of our congregation, I realize how marvelously the Holy
Spirit is directing and guiding the path of our ministry together. Let me "put a face" on what I'm
saying.
Three Sundays
ago 7 women and one 5th grader in our parish met for lunch and devotions after
worship and then spent the afternoon gardening for one of our seniors
recovering from surgery and then planted a new garden for a family that had
just moved into their new home. The gift
of God's beautiful creation became just a little more evident for all these
members of Lord of Life.
Two weeks ago I
attended two board meetings at LOL for two ministries that didn't exist just 3
years ago. I was thrilled to hear about
the work of "The Grace Place" and how 30 children and their families
have been touched by the good news of God's love in this educational and outreach
effort of our congregation. The staff at Grace Place is outstanding and we can see lives being changed by their gracious work among us. In addition, I sat in on the
board meeting of "The Fuller Center for Housing in the Jersey Pines". It is clear that youth and adults at Lord of Life are
becoming instruments of constructive healing for families who need a "hand
up" in places like Westampton and very soon in Vineland. Hundreds of volunteer hours are being
dedicated to the work of Christ and the Holy Spirit is moving among us there.
And just last
week, Vicar Sue Jones was approved for ordination by the examining committee of
the New Jersey Synod. Numerous members
of our church have contributed to Sue's formation as a future pastor in the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and she has had a wonderful influence on
our life and ministry too!
It is crystal
clear to me that when the Holy Spirit gets a hold on us, we just can't help
being "blessed to be a blessing".
Your brother in Christ, Pastor Jones

Time and Talent Auction - Sept. 25th
On September 25th, after the Saturday evening
Worship Service at approximately 7:00PM,
we invite you to a very special auction in Fellowship Hall. The way it works is that people donate items
or services along with a suggested
minimum bid. All articles will be on display prior to the auction while we
enjoy light refreshments. Our
auctioneer, Scott Glossner, will then begin the auction and proceeds will be
donated to a special ministry.
In the past we have had
services donated such as a certain amount of hours of babysitting,
housecleaning, yard work and handyman services. Other services included painting a room,
cooking dinner for a fixed number, and a personally guided historical tour. Items may be handmade or purchased (new items
only). We've had some beautiful holiday decorations, handmade quilts, and even
an oil painting donated! Other items
included tickets to professional sporting events, and live entertainment. As you can see, there are opportunities for
everyone to participate in this fun-filled event.
We are publicizing this event well in advance in order that
those who plan to craft something will have ample time. Donation slips will be
placed in the narthex shortly. Questions
about the auction can be addressed to either Joanne Thomas (609-654-8311;
thomasjm@comcast.net) or Peg Gibson (609-268-8429; mgibson60@comcast.net).
