Ask Vicar Sue!
Just when you
thought it was safe... out comes another installment of Ask Vicar Sue.
Greetings
and salutations on this wonderful Sunday of the Easter Season. Recently I've had the
opportunity to work with several different groups studying the Lord's prayer,
and the Doxology (AKA The Conclusion) has been asked about. You know, the part that
goes: "For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever."
For some Christians, certain Roman Catholics and Lutherans in particular, this
part of the prayer is often not used. This is because the Doxology does not
appear in the gospel of Luke or in the earliest manuscripts of the gospel of
Matthew. It appears to be a later addition in Matthew. One of the earliest, and
most well known, printed bibles in the English language, The King James
Version, does contain the doxology, where many modern translations, such as the
New Revised Standard and the New Living Translation do not include it.
Interestingly, it does not appear in Luther's original version of the Small
Catechism either. :-) Blessings - Vicar

A F R I C A Mission Trip
Our own Music Director - Mary Whelan - will be helping children and teaching music on a mission trip to Tanzania Africa in early May 2010. In order to help defray some of the cost of the trip we had a fund-raising brunch April 11 and thanks to everyone who setup / tore down / attended / or contributed. If you couldn't make it and interested in contributing to this cause it would still be very much appreciated. Please contact Mary Borris in the Church Choir, or leave a message or donation at the Church office.
