Benefit Concert for Haiti at Lord of Life
We hope you will all join us on Friday the 29th for the benefit concert by our own"Sloppy and the Joes" for the people of Haiti. Since Lord of Life is sponsoring this event we are offering some refreshments and that is where you can help out.  We are looking for cookies, cheese and crackers, fruit trays, veggie trays, soda, etc. - just finger foods - if you can help out  please call Barbara Wagner at 609-859-0404 and let her know what you might be able to donate. It will be appreciated more than you will ever know.

We are truly blessed.  We look forward to sharing what we have been given with our brothers and sisters in Haiti who are in such desperate need.  We hope you can open your hearts and help out wherever you are able.

Grace Place News
Grace Place would like to thank the church members and parents that contributed to the playground fund.  It is our intent to refurnish the mulch and possibly add a bench to sit at when taking the mulch out of our shoes!
The children of Grace Place will be doing their part in helping Haiti by collecting rice, beans and medical supplies and donating them to Hope Alive! Clinic.  The collection box is in the FDC hallway by the Moses figure.  The first wave of donations will be sent on January 22nd.  The children are excited about this project.  Please feel free to donate as well.
Two cameras have been given to the two classrooms.  You can look forward to more pictures in the near future.

Thanks!
Thanks to everyone who helped donate a record (for Lord of Life) 81 pints of blood on January 19th!  Special thanks to Sue Kagan for coordinating the drive, along with helpers, John & Nancy Drew, Laura Hughes and Ed & Seth Kagan.

Thanks to our property team who continues to work the 'repair list' at the church.  (Please note - anything amiss let us know and fill out a note on the 'job jar' by the office!)

A huge thanks to Kristy Reynolds and David Dubois for sharing their time and talents with the SHYM youth on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  14 Youth spent the day learning about leadership through movement, motion, and dance.  A fantastic time was had by all!

Upcoming Lord of Life Discussion Series!
Lord of Life will continue the series of three discussion forums on timely topics. Facilitated by guest speakers, they are open to members of Lord of Life as well as other ELCA congregations. They  provide an opportunity to become more knowledgeable on these topics and to ask questions, present concerns, and hear the questions of others . The sessions provide an opportunity to be in conversation with our fellow ECLA members  on issues concerning our church today. Please plan to attend any of the remaining forums:
  • Human Sexuality - Sunday, March 14th 3:00-5:00 PM
  • Racism - Sunday, May 23rd 3:00-5:00 PM
All forums held at Lord of Life.  Please feel free to submit any questions / concerns for the speakers to review in advance to vicarsue@lordlife.us.
Care Partner's Ministry Information
The Care Partners Ministry will be starting a support group for LOL members and friends in the community who would like support during times of loss.  Reverend Nancy Truscott, a chaplain at Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, will be assisting with this new loss group.  We are excited to welcome Nancy as she brings her valuable experience to our new initiative.  Some of our members will also be assisting in facilitating the group.

We encourage all who find themselves dealing with the difficulties which we often experience when we lose meaningful people or things in our lives to join us.

The first meeting will be held at Lord of Life on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 from 7-8:15 PM.  If you would like to attend and need transportation please call the church office and a ride will be arranged for you.

Care Partners' mission is to reach out to our family in Christ during life's challenging times so that no one need face these times alone .
Gifted by God: my time clock
In the third chapter of the book of Ecclesiastes we read: "There is a time for everything ... a time to be born a time to die," (Eccl. 3: 1a, 2a).  How do I know how much time I get?  Who determines it?  We know the answer - God does.  But it's easy to forget or ignore.  What's more important is that we forget that God has a purpose in mind.  While we're alive it means we have time to serve and make a difference for his Kingdom in all that we do.
After Christ it's the only work that matters.
