epiphany kids

About Epiphany...  The term epiphany means "to show" or "to make known" or even "to reveal." In Western churches, it remembers the coming of the wise men bringing gifts to visit the Christ child, who by so doing "reveal" Jesus to the world as Lord and King.
Epiphany has theological significance as a teaching tool in the church. The Wise Men or Magi who brought gifts to the child Jesus were the first Gentiles to acknowledge Jesus as "King" and so were the first to "show" or "reveal" Jesus to a wider world as the incarnate Christ. This act of worship by the Magi, which corresponded to Simeon's blessing that this child Jesus would be "a light for revelation to the Gentiles" (Luke 2:32), was one of the first indications that Jesus came for all people, of all nations, of all races, and that the work of God in the world would not be limited to only a few.
Happy New Year!

...And Christmas blessings to everyone as we start out 'fresh' into a new decade (or not, depending on who you listen to...).  To help us not forget the past, we have a web page full of photo memories from 2009 - please navigate here and if you want to download any copies, email us to get a link for download:  2009 Photos from Lord of Life

Blessed to be a Blessing
In the last several months, the CarePartners at Lord of Life have been meeting to dfirst communioniscuss the initiation of a new caring group for the congregation and community.  This support group will help members and friends discuss and grieve a variety of "Losses" that occur in many people's lives.  These include the loss of a loved one through death(spouse, child, family member or friend) or the loss of a job (due to layoff or retirement) or the loss of a relationship (as a result of relocation or change in family status; like children leaving the nest).  These losses are often difficult and all require some form of grieving.  This new suport group is designed to help with the healing process.

Two of our own members, Mary-Jo Miserendino(a recently retired substance abuse counselor) and Deborra Torres (a pyschiatric nurse) will be joined by Pastor Nancy Truscott (a Lutheran pastor serving as a chaplain for Vitas Hospice services)as resource leaders for the group.  The group will hold its first meeting on Tue, Feb 2 (7 - 8 PM) in the Fellowship Hall at Lord of Life and then on a monthly basis thereafter.  Members and friends of the congregation are welcome and transportation can be provided if needed.  There is no cost for this ministry.  For further information or questions, please call the church office (609-268-0262) OR e-Mail us at www.lordlife.us

This new support group is just one more reminder that God's greatest desire for us is the healing of "body, mind and spirit."  When we gather together in the name of Jesus for this purpose we truly are "Blessed to be a Blessing!"

Thanks!

GOD IS GOOD!!!!  God certainly works through the hands and hearts of other people.  A call went out back in early December to help out one of our members who was having some very difficult times and it was beyond all expectations how everyone came forth to help out. (especially knowing just how bad the economy is at present time).  Through your generosity we were able to put a smile on the faces of  3 small children on Christmas morning (and also their Mom) with bikes, toys and clothes. The monetary gifts were also able to get them heating oil and groceries and pay some bills.  Thank you one and all  and may God Bless each and every one of you.

Thanks to the 'Card Care Ministry.  From July 1, 2009 to December 31, 2009 the "Card Care Ministry" has sent out about 400 cards.

in 2009, the church received $402,816 for the general fund.  This is the most ever received by the church to support the everyday ministries of the church.  The church ended 2009 with expenses exceeded income by $9,344 but the last 2 months of 2009 were very good.

You're Invited to the Upcoming Lord of Life Discussion Series!

Over the next several months, Lord of Life will be sponsoring a series of three discussion forums on timely topics. These discussion forums will be facilitated by guest speakers and will be open to members of Lord of Life as well as other ELCA congregations in the area. The intent is to provide the opportunity for all of us to become more knowledgeable on these topics as well as to ask questions, present concerns that we may have, and hear the questions and concerns of others . These sessions will provide an opportunity to be in conversation with our fellow members of the ELCA on issues that concern all of us in the church today. Please plan to attend any of the following forums that are of interest to you.
  • Immigration - Sunday, January 24th 3:00-5:00 PM
  • Human Sexuality - Sunday, March 14th 3:00-5:00 PM
  • Racism - Sunday, May 23rd 3:00-5:00 PM
All of the forums will be held at Lord of Life. Also, you may feel free to submit any questions or concerns that you would like the speakers to address in advance. Please send them to vicarsue@lordlife.us.

It's ALL God's (not just the 10%)

Give God his due and the rest is mine!  Is that the way you act when you give an offering or a tithe?  But the truth is - it's all God's!  The Bible says, "...the land is mine and you are but aliens and my tenants." (Lev. 25:23b) or  "...every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills." (Ps. 50:10).  What makes us think differently?  We really do not have possessions - just responsibilities.  It is God who entrusts them to us and we are answerable to Him.
