"But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.  They will soar high on wings like eagles.  They will run and not grow weary.  They will walk and not faint."  Isaiah 40:31
Thank You!

...to Everyone who shared their gifts during the Christmas week including: Altar Guild, Assisting Ministers, Bell Choir, Communion Assistants, God Rods, Greeters, Instrumentalists, Joy Sticks, Lectors, New Life Choir, Tech Team, Ushers, Vocalists & Worship Space Team.  And also to all who worshiped with us in this joyous celebration of the birth of our Savior.

Also thanks to all who participated in the giving tree project this year.  The entryway to the church was overflowing with gifts that went to those in need!

And finally to those who helped move the unexpectedly large amount of snow during the big storm especially Neil Brown who plowed (and broke his plow in the process!) and to those who 'braved the weather' to worship together.

You're Invited to the Upcoming Lord of Life Discussion Series!

Over the next several months, Lord of Life will be sponsoring a series of three discussion forums on timely topics. These discussion forums will be facilitated by guest speakers and will be open to members of Lord of Life as well as other ELCA congregations in the area. The intent is to provide the opportunity for all of us to become more knowledgeable on these topics as well as to ask questions, present concerns that we may have, and hear the questions and concerns of others . These sessions will provide an opportunity to be in conversation with our fellow members of the ELCA on issues that concern all of us in the church today. Please plan to attend any of the following forums that are of interest to you.
  • Immigration - Sunday, January 24th 3:00-5:00 PM
  • Human Sexuality - Sunday, March 14th 3:00-5:00 PM
  • Racism - Sunday, May 23rd 3:00-5:00 PM
All of the forums will be held at Lord of Life. Also, you may feel free to submit any questions or concerns that you would like the speakers to address in advance. Please send them to vicarsue@lordlife.us.

Ask Vicar Sue
Just when you thought you were safe... here comes another 'Ask Vicar Sue'! First I want to say thank you to all of you for your wonderful response to the story I told in my sermon on 12/5 & 6 of Peanut and his family and his "new big friend Merle". God sure has a funny way of building relationships and making miracles when and where we least expect it. Oh, and I promise to provide a "hanky warning" the next time I tell a story like that one - 'nough said!
One of the things I am often asked, particularly by visitors at baptisms, is why we say the word "catholic" in the Apostle's Creed when we're Lutheran. The simple answer is that the word
Vicar Sue JOnes"catholic" with a small "c" pertains to the universal church; to all those who call themselves Christian. By reciting the Creed in worship we are affirming both a personal and common belief. The small "c" then unites all of us, including our Roman Catholic brothers and sisters, together as one body in Christ!  J Blessings  - Vicar Sue

Giving from the Hand of God

Several times each year I have the privilege of preaching, teaching or speaking about stewardship. Last fall I was the guest speaker at a congregation's leadership dinner. The large group was polite, gracious and attentive. I immensely enjoyed everything about the evening-the food, the fellowship and being the guest speaker.

When the evening was done, I headed for the door and an elderly woman walked up to me. She stopped me and said, "Pastor, I am from the Netherlands, and we have a saying there. 'We give from the hand of God.'"

Her words kept running through my mind on the long drive home. That woman understood. She spoke those words to me with gentleness and conviction. Of course we give from the hand of God. All we have is a gift given to us by an abundant and generous creator.

God has big hands and generosity flows from those hands. They run over with abundant gifts for all people-no holding back, no sense of scarcity, no fear of giving too much. So when we give we do it with great joy and generosity because there is always more where it came from. It all comes from the hand of God.
