Blessed to be a Blessing!

I've heard it said that, "Music is the universal language."  If that is so, then the sanctuary at LOL is the perfect place to enter the conversation.  Several weeks ago we hosted the "Serenade for Wildlife" concert; a benefit for the Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge in Medford.  The sounds of piano, cello, violin, double bass and electric guitar filled the room with marvelous music.  On Friday, April 24th we will once again be the site for the Lenape Regional District's Young Artists Concert.  Senior High School youth will share their instrumental and vocal talent performing show tunes, pop songs and classical pieces.  And on another Friday night this coming Fall, we will provide a venue for Charlie Zahm to share his stellar gifts as a performer of Celtic music.  And each time friends and neighbors gather in our worship space they see the symbols of our faith.  The baptismal font, communion table and risen Christ figure coming off the cross all witness  to the truth that when we share God's house with the community we are "Blessed to be a Blessing!"

About the Easter Season...
Jesus' resurrection was a true miracle that changed the world then, and continues to transform lives now. It is the most special day of the year. The birth of Christ is quite important.  But his resurrection offers the hope of everlasting life to everyone! The Lenten season leading up to Easter Sunday is a time of fasting, sacrifice and prayer. It is the christian way of replicating in a small way what Christ sacrificed for us, both in his fasting and his final death on the cross. The Easter miracle transformed women and men from doubters to believers 2,000 years ago, and has continued to do so ever since.
Easter is all about the fact that God's "yes" to life is louder than death's "no," and the ultimate proof of this is that God raised his Son from the dead. Easter is not just about an isolated miracle 2,000 years ago that chiefly affected one person. Easter is all about the fact that miracles do still happen. Christ's story is the Christian's destiny.

on off switch My Favorite Switch...  Back in the good old days of early computers (Apple II for me), I loved playing with all the neat things you could do.  Word processing, spreadsheets, games - it was all there!  But if something went wrong - you got a program in that nasty 'infinite loop' or the screen was garbled, or something was just messed up, all you needed to do was just hit this magic switch called 'reset'.  All your problems would be gone, the computer would respond instantly and be just like new again.
But that was years ago and as I look around and see what's going on in the world, sometimes I wish we had a 'reset' switch today.  Problem with mortgage payments or bills?  Hit reset!  Involved in a war you can't easily get out of?  Reset!  Personal stock portfolio down 50%?  Reset!  Having problems with your spouse?  Your boss?  Your teacher?  Your friends? Reset! Reset! Reset!
Unfortunately we don't have that magic switch to solve all of life's problems.  But we do have something much better.  As a society we spend too much, eat too much, play too much, consume too much and pray too little.  What if our "reset switch" was to reverse all of that, to put our faith in God instead of worshiping the things we buy?  To think about our environment and the poor rather than buying the latest item?  To spend our time helping others instead of how to entertain ourselves?  To spend less, save more and donate wisely?  To use some of our talents, time and treasure for what God has called us to do, instead of purely for our own benefit?
God has given us the freedom to 'reset' our lives - we just need to do it.  "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Matthew 6:21
Thanks for Sharing your Time, Talents and Treasure !

- LOL received a check from Acme receipts in the amount of $197.84 for social ministry (i.e., helping hands, prayer shawl, etc.)  Thanks to everyone for sharing your receipts!

- While the brunch for the Sahol/Vernier families raised $1,821, Cindy Lee submitted paperwork to Thrivent for some matching funds so the total shared between the two families was $2,428.

- And there are always our behind the scene angels --For example:  Fred Wilfrid & Harry Granfors who work tirelessly around the building and grounds; Barb Urban who comes to the church every Tuesday morning and keeps the pews looking neat & organized, as well as the ladies who share watching the phones while the staff meets on every other Monday morning (Priscilla Faucett, Peg Gibson & Barb Wagner).

Thank you all!
