A New Wave in Continuous Lighting - Loans and Links

A new wave of photography is happening as more photographers are doing video on their stills sets, creating a need for continuous lights. The K5600s are a line of HMI low wattage lighting that have adapter rings to fit Profoto lighting modifiers. We are looking at putting these into our rental department, so we have some of these on loan. Here's what Sasha Moric at Samo films, a very up to date video cameraman and director, had to say when he tried out the HMIs :

"...How well could the HMI's hold up on a set that included shooting video and stills on the Canon 5D Mk 2 with the same lighting setup for both stills and motion? All I can say is Wow. I was super pleased with the output of the HMI's and especially the ability to shoot in the native colour balance of all CMOS chips.  When shooting video on a camera like the 5D you are always battling the poor compression of the native codec that the camera shoots in, so I feel it is always the best results when keeping the camera in as many of the native settings as possible (ex. not having to change the white balance to tungsten lighting)  The K5600 allows you to keep a daylight white balance while still working with a practical light kit that you can power off of any regular power outlet, making life a lot simpler and easier.  One thing I also loved was the ability to use photography lighting accessories  with the continuous lighting, the quantity of light I was achieving with the Broncolor Para 220 was magical. To conclude, all I can say is take out the K5600's for yourself and shoot something. You will never want to go back.

If you would like to try them out, contact Branko at reception (416 466 3024 or bookings@s1group.ca) to see what is available.
