Tech Testing: Leica S2 Hands On Review
S1 had the opportunity to do some Tech Testing with Michael Reichmann over at Luminous Landscape with the new Leica S2 camera. The review on Luminous Landscape is a very complete and thorough review of the Leica's features and ergonomics. S1 contributed to test the image quality & tethered capture capabilities of the Leica S2 versus the Phase One P40+ back on the new DF Phase One camera body.
Check out how the Leica measured up on a tethered shoot in our studios!

Wow, More Speed? Snow Leopard 10.6, Capture One 5 + Nelhalem Processor Capture Speed Test
S1 is ever in search of what exactly it is that will get us the fastest capture speed.
We tested tethered capture on Snow Leopard 10.6 with Capture One 5 Pro with Phase One P40+ (fastest capture camera back on the planet) to see how much faster capture would be with these latest OS and software, and compared to previous speeds.
Result: More hype than gain.
No change in capture speed from our previous test with the Phase P40+ (in OSX 10.5 & C1 Ver 4.8 & H2 Body). We also tested this setup on a Mac Pro 8 core and the Mac Pro Nelhalem 8 core (16 thread processor) as a variable; funny thing is, the results were the same as well. We suggest holding off moving to Snow Leopard 10.6 and buying new Mac Pros until the multi-core capabilities are developed further.

Applied Arts Awards Night at S1 a Great Success
It was great to have Applied Arts hosting the Applied Arts Awards at S1 studios again. It was a beautiful show, with stunning images, and so many came out and participated from the industry. It was a lot of fun. Check out the latest awards issues of Applied Arts magazine if you missed it. iPhone Apps
Dual Level Pro I like this one when I forget to bring a level for that tilt/shift or wide lens! Useful to have on your iPhone for emegencies. This level tool allows you to level and compare angles at the same time. .
PhotoJot - Photographer's Notebook Great for scouting locations or working out shoot concepts. This app also lets you record notes such as location, date, time, text notes, reference photos, voice clips, shutter, iso, and aperture in reference to iPhone images. It also has a Sunrise/Sunset Calculator. Uses the iPhone built in GPS and plots the location to a separate map image. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________
