FREE SCREENING OF FILM 'MOTHER NATURE'S CHILD'

Chiropractic Works

Join Chiropractic Works  on Saturday, June 2nd at 10AM to 12PM at Rodgers Memorial Library, 194 Derry Road in Hudson, for a free screening of the film Mother Nature's Child. This film explores nature's powerful role in children's health and development through the experience of toddlers, children in middle childhood and adolescents. The film marks a moment in time when a living generation can still recall childhoods of free play outdoors; this will not be true for most children growing up today. The effects of "nature deficit disorder" are now being noted across the country in epidemics of child obesity, attention disorders, and depression.

Mother Nature's Child asks the questions: Why do children need unstructured time outside? What is the place of risk-taking in healthy child development? How is play a form of learning? Why are teachers resistant to taking students outside? How can city kids connect with nature? What does it mean to educate the 'whole' child?

Q&A and discussion to follow after the film. Bring the kids to the screening Eastern Mountain Sports will be on hand with activities to keep the kids entertained while the parents watch the film. There is no cost to attend however a donation of a non-perishable food item for St Vincent DePauls food bank is greatly appreciated. For more info on the movie : http://www.mothernaturesmovie.com . Rodgers Memorial Library

THIRD ANNIVERSARY 'THREE WORD PROJECT'

A third anniversary celebration is planned at the George H. and Ella M. Rodgers Memorial Library on June 9, 2012, the anniversary of the dedication of the new Library in June 2009.  The event will include a month-long display of memorabilia from the original building project during 2008-2009 and the dedication ceremony which marked the recognition of the memorial donation from G. Philip and Alvin Rodgers in honor of their parents.

In keeping with the third anniversary, the theme of the celebration will be three word expressions of what the Library means to Town residents and patrons.  Participants in all age groups will be invited to document their feelings - "reading is fun," "I love Santa," "warm and cozy," "stimulating my mind," and so on.  Patrons will also be given the opportunity to add their comments to an HCTV DVD which will be recorded during the events on the afternoon of Saturday June 9th. (The "three word project" theme has grown in recent years from an ABC-TV News project in 2007 and was used most recently by Nottingham West School in Hudson, in which elementary school students memorialized their feelings about their school.)

In addition, the talented, award winning Alvirne B Naturals will provide a program of musical selections in the Community Room at 2pm for the enjoyment of patrons and guests. Recordings of the original Dedication Ceremony will be available for viewing during the day.

The Rodgers Memorial Library was a generous gift to the community after more than a century of library services provided at the Hills Memorial Library Building, and over 200 years of continuous public library access in Hudson. For more information about the Anniversary Celebration, contact the Library at 603-886-6030 or the website www.rodgerslibrary.org.
