Japan Earthquake Response Fund
|
The Japan Earthquake Response Fund has been opened to collect donations for emergency relief provided through local partners in Japan and other areas affected by the disaster. A massive 8.9-magnitude earthquake centered off the east coast of Japan's largest island, Hokkaido, triggered a tsunami that devastated large areas of Japan and caused damage as far away as Hawai'i and the west coast of the US. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with all those affected.

Lenten Program Continues
"I Object!"
"Now you see him, now you don't!" As we continue our study of the central tenets of our faith (dogmas), we find ourselves talking about Jesus in strange ways. The Nicene Creed and other pivotal statements of faith were hammered out over the first few centuries of the Church's life; yet, many of the questions those early Christians had about Jesus of Nazareth are still very much alive today. Last week we met Arius, the 4th Century priest who led the not-so-loyal minority at Nicaea, calling Jesus a creature like any other human. I suggested that the heresy of Arianism is a faith position still held by many Christians today. On Wednesday, March 30 we will look at the opposite view: that Jesus was never really human at all but only a divine spirit using a human body and that since Jesus wasn't really "begotten" he never really died! We'll see that this heresy of Docetism has much in common with the faith of many ardent Christians of all denominations. How did the Church deal with such heresies "back then", and how do we deal with them now? Come join us after the 6:00 p.m. Eucharist and Soup Supper, and let's talk. |

"Dropped Stitches"
Knits for Preschool
Did you ever think that a group of stitchers all the way out in Augusta would be helping out our Preschool in Sautee?
Well, Anne Short's mother, Harriet Memel, lived in Augusta for many years and belonged to a group of stitchers known as the "Dropped Stitchers." This group of 5-6 ladies gathers every Friday to enjoy each other's company and to stitch. The group is led by Thelma Wall who taught school in the Augusta area for 25 years. All of these ladies are at least 85 years old!
When Anne moved her mother to the North Georgia area, Harriet became aware of our preschool. She contacted Thelma Wall and solicited the group's help to make nap blankets for the preschoolers. The Dropped Stitches went to work and put an ad in the local paper asking folks to donate spare yarn. They were overwhelmed by the response, and they received enough yarn to make nearly 20 blankets for the kids.
Harriet Memel is pictured above delivering the blankets to the school. Thank you Dropped Stitches for your love and service to our children! |

Resurrection Road Trip!

Join us Sunday May 1st for a Resurrection road trip to see the Glenn Miller Orchestra live at the Smoky Mountain Center For The Performing Arts in Franklin, North Carolina. The concert begins at 2:30 and the cost is $15 per person. We will leave Resurrection at 12:30, and we will stop to eat dinner after the show on the way back.
The legendary Glenn Miller was one of the most successful of all the dance bandleaders back in the Swing era of the 1930s and '40s. A matchless string of hit records, the constant impact of radio broadcasts, and the drawing power at theatres, hotels, and dance pavilions built and sustained the momentum of popularity. The 19-member band continues to play many of the original Miller arrangements that keep exciting fans who have not heard them played for a while.
A sign-up sheet is in the narthex. Only 25 tickets available. |

Preschool Plants Garden
Thanks to a donation from Yonah Lumber and the handy work of Jim McCollum, the preschool now has four raised garden beds. Each class will maintain a bed and grow plants as part of their spring curriculum. Preschool director Sonya Chesser and some students planted flowers in the area around the raised beds.
If you have flowers or plants to donate to the preshool garden landscape, please contact Sonya at the preschool 706-865-9682 or respreschool@windstream.net. |

Defibrillator Now Installed
Thank You Resurrection Youth!
An AED has been purchased and is mounted in the narthex on the left wall as you walk in the front doors. Thanks to the fund raising efforts of the youth group over the last couple of years we now have the ability to respond quickly should a cardiac emergency occur.
The Zoll AED Plus is the first and only full-rescue AED on the market. This revolutionary automated external defibrillator guides the user through the potentially stressful and traumatic experience of sudden cardiac arrest and resuscitation with simple and clear audio and visual prompts. The Zoll AED Plus is highly advanced, yet easy enough to use that even rescuers with minimal training can administer proper CPR and provide defibrillation if necessary.
Zoll AEDs administer electrical current through Zoll's proprietary and highly effective Rectilinear Biphasic Waveform (RBW) technology. And, like any Zoll AED, this device doesn't simply produce an electric shock; it comes with Real CPR Help, which provides users with real-time feedback on the rate and depth of chest compressions to better ensure productive CPR and increase the chances of resuscitation. If you are not pushing hard or fast enough, the Zoll AED Plus will inform you instantly of how you need to correct your chest compressions.
Thank you also to Denny Wydra for researching and locating the type of AED that would be best for us. |

Resurrection Choir
Needs You!
Our choir is working on music for Lent and Easter. Our music is challenging but extremely meaningful. We still need new choir members who are willing to sing for the spring season. Yes, choir requires a time commitment, but the rewards are great! If you love to sing, come and join us. You don't have to be a trained singer to make a significant contribution. |
