Walking Meditation:
How often do you truly pay attention to the everyday activity of walking? So often we use walking as a means to a end, rushing from place to place, taking care of an endless list of errands.
Walking can be used as an everyday mindfulness activity. The next time you find yourself walking, pay attention to the changing sensations that take place. Examine the physical experiences in your toes, feet and legs. Recognize the level of activity in the mind. Is it focusing on the bodily sensations present, or the environment around you, or is a few steps ahead, thinking about the next item on the everygrowing agenda list.

Eating Disorder Awareness Week
|
Dear (Contact First Name),National Eating Disorder Awareness Week is February 22 - February 28. NEDAwareness Week is a collective effort of health care professionals, educators, and individuals from across the country who are committed to raising awareness of the dangers surrounding eating disorders. This includes the ongoing need for community outreach, prevention, early intervention, and treatment. The overarching aim of NEDAwareness Week is to prevent eating disorders
and body image issues while reducing the stigma surrounding eating
disorders and improving access to treatment. Eating disorders are
serious, life-threatening illnesses, not choices, and it's important
to recognize the pressures, attitudes and behaviors that shape these
disorders. Millions of American's are battling eating disorders. Many more are struggling with body image concerns. A large percentage of these individuals are teenagers and youth. Of particular concern with youth is the secretive nature of these disorders. Numerous Pro-Eating Disorder websites exist which not only enable eating disorder behaviors, but also provide an avenue for individuals to share tips about how to keep symptoms secret. There are many ways to get involved during this important week. Begin by examining your own judgments and stereotypes regarding eating, body image, shape and size. Recognize what body image values you may passing down to youth including your own children. Get involved locally with schools, youth programs, or local eating disorder treatment facilities, including MindBodyHealth. Dr. Clancy on Mom's The Word Radio Program
|
In a continuing effort at community outreach aimed at prevention, MindBodyHealth's Dr. Clancy was recently an expert guest on the Mom's The Word Radio Program. Dr. Clancy discussed warning signs associated with eating disorders in children and adolescence. He also stressed the importance of examining our own values in relation to body image and eating, particularly those values that are observed directly by our own children.
