1. The Client Needs Assessment

Information relating to the type, size, and frequency of use of the material that's being stored, will need to be collected. Depending on your level of comfort with the HD vendor, it is up to you to decide whether you would like the vendor to liase through yourself or directly with the client.

For instance, any drawings, weight reports, and budget estimates that you will require along the way, and whether or not there is an associated fee from obtaining the information?

If a project is unable to go forward because of floor loading issues, be sure to ask your HD vendor about alternative options available to solve the problem. A high-density shelving design just isn't complete until it's been installed to the manufacturer's specifications. That's why it's so important to ask your vendor about their installation and related support services. For instance, is installation an outsourced service, or do they have an in-house team of installers? What kind of on-going support services are available so that your client's HD shelving system continues running smoothly in the future? And of course, what references can they provide from similar installations?
