NEW SERVICES ADDED

We are always striving to provide our clients with the best care and bringing new treatment programs that assure their continued success.  Recently, we added the following programs to meet the needs of our patients.

  • Gambling Addiction Treatment - for both outpatients and inpatients, we have a counselor certified to treat gambling addiction.  The program begins with individual sessions, then outpatient group.  If there is no improvement, residential care will be recommended to intensify the intervention.  Work therapy while in residence is available.

  • Assessment/Evaluation upon request - during the normal work week, we can provide immediate assessment/evaluation and recommendations for those walking in or calling on the phone.  The screening takes from fifteen to thirty minutes.  This service is also available for those seeking education or guidance about someone else who is addicted, but eventually, we must talk to the potential patient.

  • Po
  • rto Recovery House - This is a level of care for those who have had a lot of treatment, are active in twelve step work, and need a safe place to live while they practice their new recovery lifestyle.  Applicants are carefully screened.  Services include one relapse prevention training group a week, supervision for work therapy, twelve step participation, random urinalysis, supervised medication and meals.

ADDICTIONS - THE BIG PICTURE

National stats match local stats.

  • Half of the 7 million offenders in local jails have a significant substance abuse problem.

  • About 60% of referrals to the country's 12,0000 addictions treatment programs come from the criminal justice systems.

  • It costs between $35,000 and $45,000 a year to have someone in jail.

  • Baby boomers (aged 50 to 59) are continuing to use illicit drugs as they grown older.  This age group reporting using illicit drugs within the past year nearly doubled between 2002 and 2007, from 5.1 to 9.4%.

  • Alcohol remains the drug of choice followed by opiates (prescribed drugs like Percocet, OxyContin, etc.)
LEVELS OF CARE - THE SMALL PICTURE

There are many levels of care for addictions treatment, just as there are for those diagnosed with other medical illnesses.  Most people start as an outpatient and can do well there.  Others need their treatment intensified.  Our levels of care include:
  • Outpatient - one hour, once a week and occasional individual sessions.  This level should work for most people.  If it does not help manage the addiction, a referral will be made for more intensive services.

  • Residential - the minimum length of stay for this level of care is 28 days.  Some people need to stay longer.  There is no limit as to length of stay. It takes what it takes.  Thus, we have extended care programming to help people become more stable.  They return to work or look for jobs, go out to AA and NA meetings, all while staying in a safe place with careful supervision.

  • Pain pill/heroin addiction program - the treatment is on two levels.

    • Medication - buprenorphine (Suboxone) prescribed by a doctor.
    • Outpatient - required while on the medication to learn about the illness.
