The ability to stand up straight and hold your head high is based on how you view life's problems. Read the above referenced scripture again. Paul didn't say, "None of these things hurt me", he said, "None of these things move me".  He understood that what happens in you is more than what happens to you.

Known to the world as an excellent composer, Beethoven had a string of "bad" things happen to him all his life. Born to an alcoholic father, his young life comprised of work, tears and angry tirades. At age eight, he was put on the keyboard sixteen hours a day so he could play well enough to support his father's drinking habit. In his twenties, he encountered another enemy ---deafness. His years of deafness however, were his most prolific. Nearing his death, he said with a smile, "I shall hear in heaven."

Abraham Lincoln's defeats are hardly talked about because his victories were so notable. Most of his life the odds were stacked against him. His mother died when he was nine. Between 1832 and 1858, he lost an election to the Illinois State Legislature, was rejected as Commissioner of the Land Office, lost two senate races, a vice-presidential nomination and perhaps most painful...the deaths of his two young sons.

When life knocks you down don't stay down, bounce back. Everybody stumbles or gets knocked off their feet from time to time; the winners are the ones who keep getting back up! That's what Paul meant when he said,"In all these things we are more than conquerors." If you pray and look hard enough, you'll find the good seed in every adversity (see Genesis 50:20). The difference between winners and losers is their ability to turn stumbling blocks into stepping stones.
