The integrity of the upright will guide them. (Proverbs 11:3)
Psychologists speak of something called the "fundamental attribution error". It works like this: if something good happens in my life, I tend to explain it by taking credit for it. But if something bad happens or if I fail, I blame my circumstance or someone! If I do well on an exam, it's because I'm smart. If I do poorly or fail, it's because I was distracted or the instructor is bad.
What I'm trying to say is this: It's time we start taking responsibility for what is happening in our life. The devil, your family, your husband, your boss, your friend or even your church is not the reason why you are not getting ahead in life! Could what's happening be that you are reaping the seeds you have sown in the past? Is your inability to hold on to finances a result of living beyond your means or could it be from your dishonest gains and dishonest business deals? Are you expecting too much from everybody and not putting forth the effort needed to make the changes you desire? Is your critical and complaining attitude making you undesirable to be around? Are you resisting God and doing your own thing?
Please understand my heart in writing this today. This is not about condemnation. It is about living by the standards of our Christian beliefs. Are we perfect? No! But you are commanded by the bible to "examine yourselves...test yourselves (2 Corinthians 13:5). Too many of us are blaming the wrong people, and are pointing fingers in the wrong direction.
Your integrity or lack of it will have consequences in your life! People are watching you. Your actions and attitudes, even in the smallest details, are forming the opinion of those who hear you claim to be a follower of Christ.
What's the solution to the fundamental attribution error? Repentance and accountability. We need God's help to see the truth about ourselves. As He reveals stuff, ask for forgiveness. Ask people who know you well and love you to tell you the truth about what they truly see in you. I asked a godly woman recently to be my accountability partner. I encourage you to do the same. You will hear some hard things...but that's good because you want to make some changes ....and become a woman of integrity.
Stay above...always.
Yours & His,
Angela
