A familiar story of the Bible is that of the twelve spies of Israel sent out to spy the land of Canaan. They spent 40 days in Canaan and came back with both good news and bad news. Canaan is a land of milk and honey, as evidenced by the fruit but it is also a land occupied by strong people and giants. Caleb and Joshua sought to reassure the people, yet ten of the spies overwhelmed the people with their bad report. Only Joshua and Caleb had confidence in the Lord and were declared as "having a different spirit". That declaration from the Lord saved them from death and launched them into their promised land. (Numbers chapters 13 and 14)
To have another spirit simply means to possess the ability to see what others cannot see and speak the way others would not speak. Of course, it is unpopular by human standards, but is very popular by God's standard. Until you see differently from the way the world sees, you cannot enter into your possession.
Abraham had another spirit. God told him to count the stars in the sky. It takes another spirit to obey that. Nobody had ever done that. But until we are ready to do what nobody else is doing, we will remain just like everybody else! In other words, if you want to get what others have never experienced, then you have to do what others have never done.
Refuse to get caught in the web of the majority! Break away from it...ask God for a "different spirit." Understand that God is doing new things. When Martin Luther was searching for greater truths, he stumbled on this powerful scripture: "The just shall live by faith." This attracted a lot of persecution against him, but see what that revelation has done to Christianity today. If you are not prepared to pay the price of being at the forefront, you will never be remembered by posterity for good.
Why do we still talk about Joshua and Caleb today? It is because they chose not to go with the crowd.
Believe, proclaim and possess! This is what another spirit is all about. And that is what you need for distinction.
