Although this command was given to men and husbands, women should heed the mandate also. Every blessing God gives you will be contested by Satan.

Our first turf to protect is our family. Satan was angry that Job's family was a source of delight to God. God's blessing on Job's home invited Satan's attack. We must fight to prevent thorns in our homes. We fight by saying "no" to agitation and conflict in our family. We fight by refusing to maintain unrealistic expectations from our husbands and children. We fight by keeping focused on servant-hood, not self-absorption. Beware of Satan's inroads. Become a watchman over your family...fight to keep what God has blessed you with!

Another area to watch is our thought life. Thoughts have presence. The moment you walk into a home, you can sense conflict or contentment, jealousy or joy. Your thoughts control your emotions and every emotion has a birthplace! If a television program, soap opera or movie causes you to entertain impure thoughts, then you must fight to keep them away from you. Be sensitive to any changes in the environment of your home or inner life.

Finally, you must fight to maintain love in your family. Love is more about listening than talking. Listen long enough for hidden emotions to be expressed. Listen carefully enough to gain understanding. Listen accurately, so you can assess the true needs of your mate and/or children. Let your questions reveal your caring and not your criticisms. Pray before you respond. Love and praise your family members openly. Serve your husband and children with joy and gladness...let them know by your actions how much you love them. Will all these come easy? Definitely no! But your family is worth fighting for...so keep fighting!
