If you are like me, you are constantly multi-tasking! There is always so much to do, you wish there were more than twenty four hours a day! Thank God for our information age, but do you sometimes secretly wish we were back in the age with no cell phones and internet?

I am privileged to wear many hats and one of those is running a medical practice. I was in a staff meeting a few weeks ago and within one hour received seven text messages and four phone calls. These were "important" patient matters that needed my "urgent" attention but as I discreetly tried to respond to them, my nurse leaned over and said to me, "They can wait an hour. We need all of you here right now." As I drove home that evening, those words played back over and over in my mind.

One respected researcher says, "in this universe of messages and information...we ratch up our stress levels in ways we are only starting to understand". He further reported: "We get more information in 72 hours than our parents received in a month, and most people don't have the skills to deal with it."

When was the last time you enjoyed some relaxed, uninterrupted time? Are you so results-oriented that anything you can't quantify is regarded a waste of time? Do you always have deadlines to meet or things to do? Can you turn your phone, TV or internet off for a day and not feel you are missing something?

The fact is we all need regular times away from the unrelenting onslaught of information...time to regroup, reflect and recharge. Jesus had a schedule to keep, people to minister to, disciples depending on Him, and a short time to do it all. Nevertheless, "He withdrew...into the wilderness, and prayed" (Luke 5:16). We must like Jesus make the time for some quiet time, turning off all the distractions and just being with Him.

And you know what? "They ALL can wait an hour...We (Father, Son and Spirit) need all of you here right now."
