You can try to disguise your identity by changing your physical address, your weight, your social circle, the way you dress etc, but your words will give you away every time you open your mouth! Peter can testify to this. When a servant girl saw him on the night Jesus was betrayed, she said, "You...were with Jesus of Nazareth". He denied it. The girl would not give up. She scrutinized him more and told Peter... "You are one of them...your speech shows it".

What are your words like to those around you? Can your husband, your children, your co-workers and your family members say "You are a follower of Christ...your speech shows it." Paul instructs us: "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up...that it may benefit those who listen" (Ephesians 4:29).

People are watching you...especially if you profess to be a Christian. If you want to win people to Christ, the first thing you must watch very carefully is how you talk. Words are powerful. They can build up or tear down, add to or take from. Your speech must always be with grace and you should know how to gracefully talk to everybody!

It's not important that people can by your accent tell where you're from, but when they can't tell you are Christ's disciple by your words, something is seriously wrong.
